He also lost to Ike Quartey and Pernell Whitaker, but unfortunately the history books say different things... De La Hoya must be the most massive hype job of the last 50 years or so. Every time he stepped into the ring with quality opposition he lost, either officially or not.

No, he has clearly beaten Whitaker. And also no, he was one of the best boxers of his generation. Olympic Gold medal and 6 weights champion titles aren't given for nothing.

I think he lost to Whitaker.Quartey is debatable.I thought he won that.Vargas was a decent win.His best win in my eyes was Trinidad, despite running in the last two rounds.Ironically the judges had him losing.

Like him or not, he did all he could in order to make the contracted weight, like a professional, yet Floyd didn't even try vs Marquez.

The only clear losses in my view were Mosley 1, Sturm, Hopkins, Floyd and Pacquiao.

He fought Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. 2x, Pernell Whitaker, Sugar Shane Mosley 2x, Felix Trinidad, Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao - fighters who at one point or another, before or after him, were considered the #1 pound for pound fighters in the world. Of the 8 fights he had with them, not officially but in my opinion, he went 5-3.
