Both Mexico and Puerto Rico thought Cotto won the fight, to the point that even Mexico's announcers felt Cotto-Canelo was a robbery. Personally, I was shocked by the scores. I had Cotto winning decisively, and it was clear something was amiss with the scores that night.

The only section that had Canelo winning was HBO and most other American media, which of course translated to American fans following suit. I believe that a lot of that fight's interpretation by both the American media and fans was heavily swayed by a desire to see Canelo-GGG (as Cotto made clear that although open to fighting GGG next, he would stipulate demands as the A-side, not to mention that Cotto reserved the right to rematch Mayweather, as well), ending with Cotto cast in the "villain" role. What the American media and fans saw that night was not what actually occurred in the ring, in my honest opinion. It's a fight worth rewatching on YouTube.

Anyhow, I still believe Cotto, even after a year layoff, can win a rematch. I just hope there's greater scrutiny this time around when it comes to selecting judges and ensuring they're not influenced by outside parties.

Cotto got $15 million and Canelo $5.
After all the sales and such Cotto made $58,000,000
"Cotto vs. Canelo purses: Alvarez takes less to gain more"
"Canelo truly wants to be viewed as a great fighter and a genuine PPV star, it was in his best interest to make whatever concessions necessary to make this opportunity happen.”
            Something GGG wil NEVER do!

            Great post!

If Cotto was in his prime I would love to have seen a second fight, however Cotto is 35, has been in quite a few wars and simply isn't what he used to be. Canelo already has the significant size and weight advantage. It wouldn't really be much of a fight given that Cotto is basically at the end of his career.

                      Cotto will not accept...

Relax guys. Cotto knows he will get KO'ed in a rematch. I honestly believe this also. Canelo carried him down the stretch and could've finished him if he wanted to. I was a bit surprised at Cotto's fitness, which has improved under Roach, and his chin as well. Canelo entered his physical prime in the fight and continues to get faster, smarter, and stronger. No way Cotto is dumb enough to get back in the ring with this kid. NO WAY! However, CottovsBradley would be an awesome fight at 154lbs! No catch weight and I have a feeling that Bradley wouldn't mind either. If the fight happens, I expect Cotto to KO Bradley at some point.
