The first Cotto fight was a chance for Alvarez to prove he wasn't a hype job. Sure, Cotto was years past his prime but he was still viewed by many as a top guy and he was (bogus) MW champ.
Cotto lacked the power to hurt Alvarez and Miguel's been knocked down more times than I can remember but Alvarez couldn't stop Cotto or even win decisively against the older, smaller, slower fighter.
That said, a rematch does nothing tor Alvarez's rep besides reminding people that he and Oscar refuse to fight anyone who is a threat to beat him.

So what would be the point of him having another fight with someone he already he believes he beat comfortably and additionally someone who is well past their best? Money aside that fight does nothing for Canelo. If he wants to be considered the best fighter currently then he needs to take the step up and fight GGG or at the very least fight Andrade or one of the other top LMW's.

I still believe Cotto won the first fight but Cotto is now well passed his best, I dont think that fight will be nearly as close a second time round.
Keep in mind boxing is a business. Cotto gave Canelo a notch on his resume by taking the fight. The least Canelo could do for Cotto is give him another big payday before he hangs them up.
I'm sure he will do the same for GGG after he beats him.

You got that too??? Ever notice how GBP uses almost every word Loeffler used in the past against him???

A-side?? 90-10 split? Almost word for word what they said about Ward. There even going to mess with him even more on that Jacobs 75-25 split.

Cotto made a KILLING on the fight!!! Over $50 million he made. It was more like a 70/30 split if not more FOR Cotto. And Jay-Z Roc Nations did jack sht to even promote the fight!!!

Cotto got $15 million and Canelo $5.

After all the sales and such Cotto made $58,000,000

"Cotto vs. Canelo purses: Alvarez takes less to gain more"

"Canelo truly wants to be viewed as a great fighter and a genuine PPV star, it was in his best interest to make whatever concessions necessary to make this opportunity happen.”

                    Something GGG wil NEVER do!

The point of a rematch?... A fix: Cotto wins a "hard fought decision and you'll get a trilogy... "
