He was a decent placeholder, nothing to special in the great scheme of things and will be a side note in history.

As an aside, Canelomaidana obviously got a slow brain bleed somewhere along the way that never got diagnosed.

His win over Miranda with his broken jaw was something that showed heart and toughness.

Not a hall of famer, but he was legit... Solid paper champ in his prime. Could beat most guys, except for the elites.. Good power

I don't think when people say he was a better MW they're saying that's where his big fights took place. Just that stylistically he was a very scary fighter at middleweight.

When he moved up and faced taller fighters things became extremely difficult with his shelled-up stalker style. He just couldn't get in range.

It would have been interesting to see a young version of him against the current top MWs.

Remember him for fighting with a hideously broken jaw and Dirrell taking that soccer dive to get out of their fight.

he didnt 'hang with the top guys' he lost every round to them basically. just a big useless plodding lump with his high guard, a punching bag for top level fighters.

You only think that because you don't actually watch the fights. You get your info from records and general sentiments you see on forums. You've been caught doing this numerous times but you just don't quit.

If Golovkin beat him you'd be saying Abraham was an ATG. Your hero's best opponent couldn't even beat a tired old Abraham. The guy wasn't great, but he kept getting fights with top guys because he could at least hang.

                      Mediocre at best.

I do give him that he actually tried and went out to test himself via Super Six before falling short, realizing his limits & went back to being a bidnessman in Germany.
