As far as the question, I am of the mind that boxing is a delicate blend of career and pride. If it were me, I would speak to the sanctioning body to air my displeasure. If they refused, I would make a statement by dumping the belt and publicly drawing attention to the farce.
That's me though, and I'm a person who has done extreme things to stand by my principles, including leaving a very good job. What do I expect of THEM? If he wants a safe and simple path to retirement in a couple years, just go with it. If he wants any kind of legacy though, time is fleeting.
