His only real reasons would be to avoid negative press and for the money it will generate, which he could probably make with less risk by fighting 2 or 3 lower profile opponents. Time is on his side after all. The only 'obligation' to fight Golovkin came with the strap, which, as I said, he would have been well advised to drop earlier.
Yea i wonder if after Cotto fight nobody in Canelos camp wasnt aware, they shouldv drop it right after Cotto and go back to 154,not sure why he fought Khan for MW crown and not in CW or 154.

      So
First of all judging who has a better resume in this era in useless except for the top 3-4 guys because mostly it's like comparing dog**** to bull****. 95% of the boxers are ducking so very few develop good resumes except for the cash cows who have a huge advantage in that regard because they can take their pick of everyone who wants to fight them. For example Canelo had the option to fight Lara because Lara wanted that fight so bad, he came to Canelo's fight and interrupted the press conference. GGG does not have the same options because Lara just talks about GGG but won't come to the press conference or fight on HBO.

Secondly, even with that built in advantage, Canelo's resume sucks. He lost 10 rounds to Floyd. Is that supposed to be a notch on his resume? Because he was willing to fight Floyd? Well I guess Robert Guerrero has the best resume in boxing too because he was willing to face not just Floyd, but Thurman, etc. It's not like GGG wouldn't be just as willing to fight Floyd and probably not lose 10+ rounds either.

Canelo fought Trout and Lara even. Those were pick-em fights. Trout hasn't proven himself an elite fighter except for that one Cotto win, which maybe Cotto was not as his best. It was post-Margarito/Pacquiao, pre-Roach Cotto. Fighters like Chocolatito get knocked for moving up in weight and winning a fight 8-4 against Cuadras, but Canelo is supposed to get credit "beating" smaller men 6-6?

Who else has he beat? Beating Cotto at 155 when Cotto was just about to go down to fight Marquez at 150? That proves he's still a welter/jr middle. Cotto is also an older 35 with lots of wear and tear. That fight was also less than a dominating performance.

So yes, Canelo has some nice names on his resume, just like Pacquiao and Mayweather were able to get old Mosley to fight them because of their drawing power, but that doesn't mean **** honestly. And out of those four names, one he got dominated, and two he fought to what should have been draws, and the third he won 7-5 or 8-4. It's the most overrated resumé in boxing.

I've never seen such a dragged out move up in weight for someone who clearly struggles to make the weight he's fighting at. He's clearly waiting for ggg to slow down...... Or die

Pathetic that they actually reveal their plan to drain their next opponent or make him move up from a real weightclass. Disgusting disgusting.

Makes total sense. Golovkin came in at 158.9 for the Brook fight and he looked lime death....so 158 sounds about right. tough on though is if Alvarez fights Golovkin for all the belts they have to do a day of weigh in with a limit of 10 pounds...may see Alvarez struggle.

Learn boxing WBC manfatory title fight rules state that catchweights cannot be demanded as part of the negotiations. Green belt vacated though. Learn history the purse was not even negotiated because they didnt even get past the weight before Alvarez vacated. How can you even defend that?
