Cotto or the Cotto fight rather was the one who ruined Geale not GGG.

Or you can say Geale ruined himself by taking the Cotto fight and going in there drained. He just suffered the same fate as Chad Dawson who drained himself for the Ward fight and wasn't **** afterwards.

It still kinda blows my mind that Dawson fell off that quickly after the Ward fight. The dude fell off the damn Grand Canyon after that fight.

He ruined himself by doing what he did. And I think Brook might ruin himself if he tries to go back to 147. That's IF his eye isn't ****ed already.

I don't know how good Geale really was.... he always seemed kinda average to me as nothing stood out about him. He definitely shouldn't have lost this fight though.

You could say Golovkin or Cotto ruined him but I'll say this about Golovkins opponents, it's not a good look when people question their quality before he fights them and then after they fight him they don't seem to do or achieve anything of note. Murray, Geale, Proska, etc have done nothing since fighting him. Lemieux doesn't look like fighting a live body anytime soon.

Murray gave a super middleweight champ a competitive fight. That means something. You're right though, and a lot of that has to do with when these guys finally decided to fight Golovkin.

Macklin stepped up after fighting some wars over his career. Murray as well. Geale only stepped up after his years as a titlist or contender because it was is only chance to reestablish himself. None of them were that good to begin with. Then they step in the ring with Golovkin and he puts even further damage on them which isn't helping.

It's a shame that Golovkin only gets these guys towards the end when they have little or nothing to lose, because it does make him look bad in retrospect.

I fully agree, I'll never place blame on GGG for fights not happening quickly enough because you can't force anyone to fight you, Jacobs is also dragging his feet and if the fight goes how I expect then at 30 post being KO'd by Golovkin he may not have much left either.

If reports are to be believed Chad was looking like **** before he fought Ward - KTFO sparring by Miranda and beat all over the ring by Lionell fkn Thompson.

Hard to say whether Geale went to **** before or after he fought GGG. He still looked decent against Barker though you'd have hoped for a win there, and scored his first stoppage in ages against Garth Wood.

Always thought Geale was a bit of an overachiever: good enough to be the third or fourth best alphabet belt-holder in the division but not near good enough to beat the best, particularly top guys with a punch. Getting decisions over Sylvester and Sturm in Germany were impressive, but neither of them were the division's best and that was Geale's peak. IMO he was never going to last vs GGG or Cotto, or, if the fights had happened, Martinez or Pirog, who were also belt-holders when Geale was

Good, honest post. I agree, especially with winning in Germany. Can't take that away from him.
