"He didn’t just beat Matthysse in September 2013. He did it rather easily."
No, he didn't. Clear win, but it was not even remotely easy.
"Besides, no one would’ve faulted Garcia for losing to Mayweather, who wound up meeting Marcos Maidana in a reasonably competitive May 2014 fight"
Reasonably competitive? The only fighter who ever gave him tougher was Castillo. Seriously, WTF?
Everyone was on board with Garcia after the Matthysse fight, and he has done nothing but ruin that momentum. People always have an excuse for the crap fights he has taken, but those excuses have yet to turn out correct while he continues to take crap fights. He deserves the hate he is getting, and while I believe when they say the Thurman fight is next, I can't assume it's a given when just this year a fighter I never questioned gave the same spiel about a fight being next. That fighter then ducked that fight as blatantly as a duck can happen.
If Garcia wants to regain any of the credibility he once earned, he better fight Thurman or someone of similar standing next.
His last two fights have been tune ups. His own pops said he fought a gatekeeper for a title at 147, not a contender, not another elite level fighter, but a gatekeeper. Add to that he has this trash fight coming up. If you're cool with him fighting one live body every 4 fights then good for you
He fought Guerrero for a vacant title,so questions about his standing should be aimed towards the wbc. If what you said was actually true it would still put him far and away ahead of some of these so called p4p fighters at the rate that he face top level opposition.
I don't need any excuses because the truth tells the story fine by itself. As the PBC continued to blow through its money, it's top fighters not so shockingly became less active as the year went on. Danny Garcia was facing a dilemma because of this, should he go into a fight with a top level opponent and risk being rusty from a year of inactivity or should he take tune up in his native Philadelphia.

All 3 of them deserve the flak they get for garbage match ups. Now what's your excuse?
