Well for a start, Canelo's team first suggested 152, so Mayweather took too advantage of that. Anyway, in the lead up to the fight, Canelo and his team were saying 152 is perfect, he will be quicker etc.. it was only when he lost that he was suddenly drained.

Golovkin's team rightly feel that a MW unification title fight should be at the correct weight limits.

Them saying they won't fight GGG earlier than Sep 2017 is all you need to know. The fight was never ever happening before then and probably still won't happen then, they're just buying time until they find another way out. If Golovkin had agreed to the weight, then they would move the goalposts and come up with some other issue to not fight. The weight was just the first way of trying to get out of it.
