Comments Thread For: Kovalev vs. Ward: MGM Oddsmaker Gives His Take

what that means is that bookies (smart ones anyways) dont care one way or the other who will win, or who is going to win. The book adjusts the odds to keep an even amount of money on both sides. They make their money on the spread, not the result.
For example, if a ton of money came in on Ward, they would adjust the odds to attract more Kovalev bettors in order to balance their risk. So if action at say +150 on Kovalev was low, they might up it to +200 or +250 or whatever it took to get more action on him, while giving worse odds on Ward to slow the action down on his side........................Comment

This is what boxing is all about, the best facing the best!
Kudos to Kovalev for stepping up to the challenge and even though he is a closet racist I can't say he's not a warrior willing to fight anyone!! Ward by clear UD despite some scary moments!!

Easy work for Kovakev this. He's a much better boxer than people give him credit for. He's a better boxer than Ward is a puncher.

Really looking forward to this, although in the back of my mind I am still expecting it to be scratched due to [cut in sparring/rib injury/hand injury/rolled ankle]. I think Ward is going to edge it as I think he will be too slippery for Kovalev and will frustrate him. It has the potential to be a great fight if Kovalev can close the distance, but it will probably end up being a clinchfest with little action. I hope the winner does go on to fight Stevenson and unify the division and as only Ward is likely to do so, then I hope he wins this fight.Comment

That's the scary part! It's already hard to get guys to fight in these type of matchups, imagine how much harder it will be if no one is going to make any money?Comment

I agree with you a 100%. In the past the difficult fights usually were the most lucrative, but right now boxing is in a very dangerous place. If the difficult fights don't warrant you the best payday then the supply and demand is thrown out of whack and we'll continue to see more and more lopsided matchups.Comment
