I'm not sure why people here are trying to convince me that he did get dropped as I've never denied that. I have no opinion of it. I've had a crazy history of sparring but I never let myself think I was actually better than those guys I got the better of. Sparring is not a measure of talent, it's training.
Fair enough. Like you say, it doesn't actually mean jack anyway - can't really see why it needs bringing up as if signifies anything. FWIW this is JDJs comment on the matter.

So all everyone takes out of it is "I knocked him down in the first round of day one of sparring when i came in" not "he beat the hell out of me every other day from then on" guys are reaching?

It would surprise me if pro fighters didn't go down at least once during sparring whether off balance or slip.

But he had 300 amateur fights and 36 pro fights and not gone down that should be the headline.

I do like hearing sparring stories. But as always..it's just sparring. Sparring serves lots of purposes.

There's stories of lots of top guys being hurt / videos of top guys being outworked.

The buzz going around at present is a story of Connor McGregor getting hurt in sparring, and people are getting excited/defensive about it. These guys have sparred hundreds and hundreds of rounds..things are going to happen.

If Golovkin knocking Kovalev down is a big deal than this is 10x greater. I can understand not putting to much stock into sparring but it is idiotic to completely disregard Golovkin being knocked down in sparring by a guy, let me repeat, with MORE knockout LOSSES than knockout WINS.

Golovkin is one of my favorite active fighters but I'm not going to have double standards towards him over other fighters.

                    Its sparring. It means nothing.
