Yes he could fight Saunders right now for his belt if he wanted to and they agreed upon $$$. He could also fight any 154 lber for there belt as well. The belt organizations won't stand in the way because most get a % of the fight money. Would you rather have 3% of Canelo's fights or 3% if the current champions fights???

I wouldn't have minded as much if he fought someone who deserved it. There's guys other than Smith he could have fought at 154 that I would've been fine with. But it was obvious that 154 was too much to make and doing it again wouldn't be a good decision. I really don't know what they're planning on doing with him at 160.
