I wish these boxers would try to be more like Mayweather

He fought 19 times his first three years as a pro. Won his first title in his 18th fight at 21 years old. Defended that title just 2 months later against Angel Manfredy. Defended the title 7 times in a two year period, including a dominant win against p4p Coralles. Moved up a division and won a title in his first fight. Defended that tite 3 times in a one year period. Moved up another division and won a title in dominant fashion against Gatti in his first PPV where he was the B-side and took shorter money than was originally promised. Moved up again and won a title against Judah and unified against Baldomir. Moved up again after only two fights at welterweight and won the 154 title against De La Hoya

At 30 years old Floyd had won 5 linear titles, 5 world titles in 5 different weight classes, and had 38 fights.

Now lets look at some of the top fighters today
    • GGG-34 years old-3 world titles-no linear titles-36 fights
    • Daniel Jacobs-29 years old-no world title-33 fights
    • Deontay Wilder-30 years old-one world title-37 fights-never fought a p4p fighter
    • Keith Thurman-27 years old-one world title not won in he ring-27 fights-one top 10 win in his division
    • Errol Spence-26 years old-no world titles-not top ten wins-21 fights
    • Kell Brook-30 years old-one world title-one top ten win-no linear titles-37 fights

The most accomplished of the top 30 and under guys are
    • Canelo
    • Roman Gonzalez
    • Danny Garcia
    • Amir Khan

There may be some more I'm leaving off the list but these so called top fighters today haven't accomplished half as much as Mayweather did by the time he was 30. He earned the right to conduct his career the way he did the last 9 years. And even then he still gave us the best fights. He didn't take low risk high reward fights. He took highest reward for the most risk fights. And I still challenge anybody to put the last ten years of his career side by side with any fighter and show me a better resume. These fighters want to be Mayweather without putting in half the work he put in.

Difference is that the fighters you are mentioning aren't even close to Mayweather's level. If these fighters would have tried to do what Floyd did they would have alot more losses and their careers would be cut short because of all the tough fights

Worth remembering that without slighting his accomplishments in any way Floyd got in at the ground floor with Arum and simply got opportunities that not every fighter gets. Of course, he still had to take advantage of those chances - that is all his own work and a result of his exceptional talent, but not everyone gets those chances. Success stories are almost always down to a conflence of hard work and talent but good fortune plays a bigger role than we may often admit.

Yeah, his amateur career is not a part of the work he put in.

I disagree. You prepare and take advantage of your opportunities. Arum couldn't force Floyd to fight. When presented with an opportunity Floyd took advantage of it. Walters was given an opportunity last year and turned it down. Note all momentum is gone and he's back at where he left off last year. If the WBA doesn't raise the purse split and he turns down the fight he just lost his opportunity. Bob didn't give Floyd anything. Bob didn't even think black fighters were marketable. Bob gave De La Hoya opportunities not all fighters are afforded but even then Oscar still was prepared when opportunity knocked

You have almost no idea what you're talking about and it shows when you post.

Arum signed several black fighters, when he says they're not marketable he means as in current times not 1996. Which is true.

Also opportunities have to be presented. Say whatever you like but Top Rank presented these opportunities, paid him massive amounts of cash to fight scrubs, and presented him with some of the best matchmakers in the sport.

Another issue today thanks to social media and things like it, everyone thinks they're a star. So everyone thinks their the A side and deserve heaps.
Mans you shouldn't add Golovkin to your list. The guy has been trying to face world champions since his 14th pro fight. Not his fault is promoters worked against him.

Or even Thurman who has been callinng out the fighter your slurping off, Floyd Mayweather. It's not his fault his own promoter is holding up big fights or that Maidana pussied out when it came time to face him.
Let's stop blaming fighters for the cowardice of other fighters.

I ain't gonna argue with ya bro. I'm sure his talent would have earned him success in any case, merely pointing out that if Floyd had in fact been born Fenuku Mankattah from Accra he may not have enjoyed the same opportunities. I wasn't belittling Floyds achievements in any way or trying to somehow trying to give Arum credit - merely pointing out the realities of it. 'Course - as I think was alluded to by another poster - without Floyds amateur success and recognition (which again was all his own) he might have got picked up by a smaller promoter and had a less spectacular route to success.

Point is he had money behind him and someone who could make big fights happen. That **** helps. It is what it is. Bob might have hated Floyd and given him the minimum possible but at the end of the day Bobs profits were maximised by getting Floyd the biggest fights, and he had the power to make em. All I'm saying.
