Fact- Golovkin does not generate much revenue as the marquee (neither does Canelo, every Canelo ppv where he is the A side has underperformed)
Fact- Golovkin has never been in a meaningful fight. (false, world title fights are cinisdered meaningful)
Fact- Alvarez has fought in multiple meaningful fights at 154 and 155. (maybe, but his last 2 opponents have been pointless cherry picks)

Which fighter needs the other to make big money or to legitimize himself on the boxing landscape?[(in the boxing world, ggg is recognized as the most feared boxer today and the most dominant fighter of any weight class. Canelo is looked at as a fearful protected fighter who gave away his belt to avoid finally fighting someone he doesn't enjoy a great weight advantage over. Canelo may be the biggest option for ggg but Canelo won't do big ppv numbers ever again unless ggg is involved.
Bit hard to read with the broken markup, but worth reading through. Very good post

Let's do Simple Math. Ggg will Stand to make $15-20 million after its all said and done. I'll make it easier for you. Against mayweather, Canelo made $5 million vs mayweathers $40 million. That means they made a combined $45 million which came out to Canelo 11% and mayweather 89% with Canelo bringing 2 JMW belts to the table. This fight also sold 2.1 million ppv's which was the highest sold ppv at the time. Next example: Canelo vs cotto- Canelo made $5 million vs cottos $15 million for a combined $20 million. Do the math. Canelo made 25% and cotto 75%. Are you still with me? Present day Canelo vs ggg. Ggg will make $15-$20 million vs Canelos $30-$40 million. This is all depends on how good the ppv sells. Let's do the math. Let's go low end (ggg) vs high end (canelo). If Canelo makes $40 million and ggg makes $15 million that's a combined total of $55 million. Ggg makes 27% and Canelo makes 73 %. Now let's look at GGG's high end vs Canelos low end. If ggg makes $20 million and Canelo makes $30 million that's a combined $50 million. Ggg gets 40% and Canelo gets 60%. Still following?! Now let's look at both fighters high end. If ggg gets $20 million and Canelo gets $40 million that's $60 million. Ggg gets 33% and Canelo gets 67%. This is as simple as I can explain it so you and every ggg fan can understand. 8 figures does not mean 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,or 9 million. It means a guaranteed at least $10 million right of the back plus a ppv percentage. Canelo took a guaranteed $5 million for cotto and mayweather. He's offering ggg at least double that for a fight that's not guaranteed to sell 2 million ppv's

      bookmarked !

so I can remind the fanboys tomorrow, after they choose to ignore it today

As I understood, GGG was offered 10M $, NO PPV percentage. So GGG gets flat fee no matter how much fight gathers. "Upside" is not a PPV percentage.
GGG gets 10M and Canelo 50M. GGG gets 17% to Canelo 83%. And if fight makes around 100M, it will be even worse for GGG.

So it is a smart business decision not to take such low-ball offer.

Immediately after accusing Canelo of being a businessman, Golovkin.....

            * did the exact same thing by selecting the welterweight Brook
            * passed on Canelo for the SECOND time, this time refusing 10mil
            * low-balled Jacobs, and then forced an early purse-bid

                1. A planned future sit down or discussion isn't a formal response. A formal response in negotiations is either a yes or a counter.

                2. Revenue includes ppv and ticket sales. 52k for a fight is a lot of revenue. Also, not meeting expectations doesn't mean it didn't make a lot of revenue.

                3. Defending belts that were handed to you versus C level guys isn't a meaningful fight.

                4. Even without Trip, Alvarez is still the top draw in the boxing. Other than Golovkin fans, no one considers him protected or fearful.

                5. There is a difference between saying "but he didn't fight Golovkin" and "but he fought no one of note". Who needs a big fight more again?

Fyi...ppv upside is a percentage of the ppv earnings. It is generally scaled based on the number of ppv buys. For example a fighter may get 10% of the ppv earnings GS after say 500k buys.

Sure, Canelo's goal is to fight GGG, BUT... BUT under the "right circumstances"... and PEOPLE (what "people"?) aren't seeing those "right circumstances"...

Obviously it's all the Canelo haters whining.
