HBO has always been the propaganda masters of US boxing, but their desperation has made the propaganda more obvious and more ridiculous than ever.

Before you know it, boxing isn't going to be worth HBO's time. Their days are numbered. The HBO propaganda machine will try to fight it, but it's not going to change anything.

The man is a cancer to this sport, so much so that it's now about as far removed from being an actual sport as it can get.
      Are you serious??

So looking out for the best interest of the fighter is cancerous to the sport??

I can't believe how much hate one man can get because he choose to do something different..

HBO has over 30 years in the business and PBC has two but PBC has the capability of putting on championships fights without the fan having to fork up $70 per fight.

In due time PBC will flourish because they have the young lions that have character. Once he get a long term contract on a majoe network he'll give the fans what they want.

HBO make you pay for its fight and this year thus far they mostly been predictable fights..

I like HBO and I like what the PBC is trying to do. As a fan Im not gathering why is it so much hate for the PBC for trying something new

That'd be really bad for boxing, them and Showtime are the only networks spending serious money on it. And Showtime ratings are consistently embarrassing. Is that it for the sport then, in the US?

If HBO got out of the business, Showtime would double down.

And while those are the only networks spending serious money RIGHT NOW, Haymon is obviously betting on getting Fox and/or CBS to start spending serious money as well.

If HBO exits the business, it would be great for boxing fans because they'd no longer need to subscribe to HBO and Haymon would be able to create a UFC style league regularly delivering big fights.

We've seen how your pie in the sky theories have worked out so far. The sports is in the ****ter, never been worse off in the US. And why would Sho double down when their numbers are so pitiful? They're getting Fnf ratings at 100 x the cost

So far everything is working out the way I thought it would. Haymon continues to accumulate more and more champions. Everyone else is stranded on HBO island fighting for scraps.

SHO smells blood and seems committed to riding this out until HBO gets out of the business. That would leave SHO as the only premium destination for boxing.

Before the PBC era, all non-HBO/SHO boxing was fairly low level stuff. So I do think the Spike cards are an interesting development. They are not time buys. Spike pays a license fee. The level of fighters appearing on Spike blows away what ESPN2 was doing.

Meanwhile, we've had several PBC fights reach 3-4 million viewers, so not only do we have more prominent boxing on basic cable now, but we also have millions of people watching boxing now that weren't watching before.

The sport is not in the ****ter. HBO is in the ****ter. Big difference. More people are watching boxing in the US than have watched in many many years.

Dude Showtimes highest rating this year is 500k. They've lost a ton of viewers since this Pbc thing started, with Hbo level spending. And iirc each of the over the air networks had a consistent downward trend with Pbc ratings, except for that Spence Olympic outlier and Thurman Porter. Check out these Spike numbers

The Jacobs fight beat ESPN 2 Glory Kickboxing by 30k viewers. That's being in the ****ter

                  Bando -

Absolutely nothing you said contradicted anything I said. Over 6 million saw Spence on NBC. Nearly 4 million saw Thurman on CBS. 3.5 million saw Garcia on FOX.

Which means MILLIONS OF PEOPLE are watching boxing that weren't watching before.

Yes, Showtime's ratings are down, as are HBO's. Which would make sense since you can now see big time boxing on free TV.

But Showtime isn't the one slashing their boxing budget, HBO is. Showtime is in this for the long haul. Ultimately, I don't think HBO will be.

Once that happens, Haymon can create the boxing equivalent of UFC, which would be great for fans.

Again, Showtime is the only network that's shelling out real money for Haymon, the rest is time buys. And they're getting hammered instead of benefitting from the extra exposure that Pbc brought to these fighters. For all their increased investment, a cost cutting Hbo is smoking them in the ratings, even on prorated basis. 380k viewers for the 3m Jacobs Quillin Brooklyn superfight, 500k for Wilder, it's embarrassing. Joshua's afternoon Uk fight did under 300k, Ggg Brook does 3x more. Why would anyone shell out high 6 or 7 digits for the numbers they get for 30x cheaper kickboxing, or Cops reruns?

HBO shouldn't criticize the competition, they should just compete.
