I always said what would worry GGG is a volume puncher with a high work rate.

GGG is going to wear down a fighter who fights by spot chasing him around the ring.

Dunno, I need to see more about GGG to tell how he would do vs Calzaghe.

Depending on who would dictate the pace IMO, and it's hard to call.

I would favor Calzaghe, Calzaghe being the naturally bigger guy, just like I favor Ward.

Size (reach, weight) is a big factor in boxing.

    What's your point Larry?

Joe's faced some big hitters at legit 168 lbs. He avoids a lot of power shots, and the ones he gets caught with he's shown his chin and recovery.

A fan of both but GGG doesn't have the reach to impose his will on this one.

If a 145 lber in Brook can trouble GGG through 5 rds until an injury, a 168 lber in Calzaghe does a fair bit better throughout for a UD.

they are the same height. about same reach.

calzaghe has wider hips though. more estrogen for those slaps.

Calzaghe is at least an inch taller, walked around a good 20 lbs heavier, and has a few inches in reach advantage too.

Haven't seen enough of GGG at that kind of level so no real way to know for sure but from what I have seen so far, I expect his power to have less effect in general once he steps up, and more importantly I expect the bigger guys to have more effect on him with their punches, and that will equate to a big difference overall. Obviously dependent on quality of fighters he fights at those higher weights.

In this match up I think he has very little chance. Calazage was so versatile I just can't see it, he is big, fast, strong, good chin, unbelievable stamina, he could box, brawl, inside, outside.

Most fans think he was a pillow puncher, but that isn't true, he was very heavy handed, just his poor technique and hand trouble meant he wasn't a KO puncher at the top level of the sport. Even in his later years when his hands were shot, he still managed to hurt Kessler to the body, and I remember him stiffening Bika in the first round, who had a great chin. Chris Eubank said he felt like he had been hit by stone when Calazage floored him in their fight, and Eubank had one of the better chins in recent memory. I'm not saying he was Julian Jackson at all, but he was someone who could sting you, and hurt you if you got too reckless.

Calazage was always a little bit vulnerable in the beginning of fights, he could be hit clean and we often saw that in the first few rounds, but once he got the measure of his man, you would hardly ever see him get hit with anything silly in the second half of a fight. He would make adjustments, and step on the gas, and I think that is exactly what would happen to GGG. Success early, but Calazage starts to nullify him, and take over, coasts the last 2 rounds. Calazage UD - GGG black and blue after an exciting and action packed fight.

i dont think he outbox him,i would say he would outwork him to win UD,but looking at size and reach advantage you might be right,Calzaghe was not kind of master boxer doe,I think we could see some fire works in this fight GGG is cutting distance fast and Joe is not runner,Joe is not slick i would say tricky, he is like ward he will punch you and hug,I never seen ggg with good boxer in the ring yet so i will go with Joe.

                      Serious question....

Before Calzaghe beat Lacy, who did you think was gonna win that fight?
