Kovalev has fought some good opposition in recent years. Ward hasn't fought a live opponent now for about half a decade. In theory that's like saying Mosley could beat Keith Thurman because Mosley has fought better opposition at WW. It's a terrible theory because there's so many factors they're missing. Maybe the Mosley thing is a slight exaggeration but the point is still valid.

Kovalev may not have fought anyone like Ward, but Ward hasn't fought anyone like Kovalev, and if he has, then it was over 5 years ago so it's really irrelevant in 2016.

That said, if Ward is still as good as he was 4-5 years ago, i tip him to win. However,there's no proof he's still that good because we have nothing to go on in terms of opposition in the past few years. There's no real evidence how good a 2016 version of Andre Ward is yet.

Wards best wins were Froch and Kessler.I won't count the shadow of Chad Dawson.Kovalevs best were old BHop and Pascal twice.I honestly don't think there's much difference.I do think it's gonna be interesting to see how Ward deals with a very hard puncher who's rangy,jabs to the body and doesn't fall in.We shall see.
