That's what makes Kovalev a true champ, he will fight anyone right now, not try to wait people out for bigger money later. The bigger money later will be there if you keep winning now. There will always be new names to fight, you don't need to save up names like duckers these days do. Maybe with GGG and Canelo its worth the 50 million dollars more but at light heavyweight with a Russian guy in Beterbiev, there's only so much marinating is going to grow the fight. Kovalev doesn't seem to care either way. He was willing to have Beterbiev as the tuneup, then fight Andre Ward. He was willing to risk LOSING all that PPV money if he lost to Beterbiev, but he was willing to make the fight anyway, because he's a true old school champion. Yvon Michel is explaining that Andre Ward really hasn't been, and he doesn't expect him to be in the future if he does beat Kovalev.
Way to ignore the latter part of my post. It wasn't even one of the books that you normally post. You pretty much explained why it's not likely for Kovalev to fight Beterbiev RIGHT AWAY should he defeat Ward. Beterbiev is a tune up to him. I guess now we are to believe that Duva is a bad promoter and was going to risk the Ward fight against the ever so dangerous Beterbiev? Or, just maybe Kovalev camp views Beterbiev like I do....a great puncher with limited boxing skills due in large part to inexperience.

It's not a question of if Kovalev or Ward would fight Beterbiev. It's a question of whether they fight him after being crown p4p in boxing. Answer is no, unless neither Cleverly or Stevenson want to play.

beterbiev isn't a kid like canelo was also if ward doesn't dictate a catch weight like mayweather did against canelo then ward would get credit

Canelo weighted in at 153.5 pounds in his fight before Mayweather against Austin Trout. He wasn't weight drained, he was simply out boxed and he learned from it.

Some fool typed that Ward was a coward yet it is Ward that is fighting Kovlaev in November. Yeah that makes perfect sense.

stevenson sparks him out today...not enough pro rounds, and his balance and defense is kinda crappy for someone that is hyped on here

Nothing surprising or shocking about a contender saying he wants a title shot. Neither Stevenson nor Kovalev have any reason to even mention Beterbiev's name. He brings no money or recognition to the table. Beterbiev is definitely a legitimate talent but currently his risk vs reward ratio is not in his favor. He should simply focus on becoming a mandatory.

I don't agree with that at all. If Ward beats Kovalev, he'll have no worry at all about beating Beterbiev. Let's not get ahead of ourselves with this guy. People act like he's been knocking out the best LHWs in the world and not mediocre competition. I think Stevenson would flatten him if they fought right now.

Stevenson is comfortable making millions fighting Polish barflies and security guards from Detroit. He doesn't need a challenge....
