I understand what was translated and Im not shocked that he would wear bigger gloves to save his hands dont get me wrong. Im a fan of Kovalev and i think he is the the man at 175. Its just funny as hell to me the man went in the ring with pillows against a guy who would give him real trouble.
Lol, did Kovalev wear bigger gloves against Chilemba?

Damn bro. I get that you like the dude but you're *****g him on a pedestal that he just doesn't belong on. He will seriously dissapoint you some day. They do not look bigger because they are white, they look bigger because they are bigger. He said in an interview he wore bigger gloves in this fight, to "save them for Ward."
Kovalev could strap 50oz pillows on his fists and still beat Chilemba, Andre Ward, or anybody else at 175. He did it because he can do whatever he wants in the ring, and he still won't lose.
Because he's the P4P King, and he will solidify that title that I already handed to him long ago, on November 17th.Comment

It was Russia, so if he wanted to wear a little extra protection to help a hand injury, he probably could have gotten away with it.
Those weren't 14 oz gloves though. I have white 14oz gloves and I'm only a little taller than Kovalev and I can tell those are either a fluffy 10 oz, or possibly a 12 (I say 10 because 10 is legal LHW). There's not enough in the wrists to be 14. They would not change his ability to KO a guy. Only offer a little more protection for his hands.Last edited by Redd Foxx; 10-03-2016, 12:08 AM.Comment

Wrong. The slight difference in weight is more fatiguing over a dozen rounds and hundreds of punches. Only fans who have never laced up gloves think that there's this huge difference in ko ability in similar gloves. The ko comes from the legs, hips, shoulders, arms working together. A tiny difference in glove fluff is not stifling all that enough to stop a clean ko.Last edited by Redd Foxx; 10-03-2016, 12:17 AM.Comment

Ok, Ive only ever had 16oz sparring gloves on. Ive never been in an "actual" fight. As far as i know its 10oz gloves above mw. Do you think Kovalev had bigger gloves on that night? Im gonna be honest its hard to tell for me because he likes white gloves.Comment

I believe they are the proper 10oz. Notice, there is virtually nothing in the wrist. When that happens, that means the maker has shifted most of the weight to the front. Also, different materials have different density. He could have had a glove with a loser/fluffier padding. Nothing looks suspect to me, one way or the other.
Chilemba is slippery and Kovalev was struggling to land cleanly. The different in punch impact had everything to do with that, not the gloves (if that was the reason for the speculation).Comment
