i dont think they really have a style that you can pick out from the rest. some of them fight defensive while some come at you with no defense.

I go to kanagawa high school boxing tournaments when I can. The winners in each weight class have a big tournament to pick a champ.

One thing I do want to point it is that many of the best were trouble makers in school and were sent to special schools, where many learned boxing at an early age.

I used to go a few nights a week to the Taiken guy in Tokyo and hit the bag etc. but only did a little sparing. I'm too old now. But, I'm on friendly terms with a few of the trainers.

Also, a lot of great fighters come from Kobe, local guys, like the kameda brothers.

Many guys are or were chimpira, jr wanna be yakuza. Torpedoes you send on missions.

In discussions I've had with Asian-based boxing fans, there seems to be a feeling exactly the other way.

The US likes to think they are the boxing mecca.

The UK likes to think they are the boxing mecca.

I'm paraphrasing Eastern fans a little bit here, but..

"Where the **** is, and why the **** should I give a ****, about Birmingham, Alabama?"
