The funny thing is if Canelo was healthy, HBO would have done Canelo vs. a bum instead of Lomachenko-Walters, Salido-Miura, and hopefully Golovkin-Jacobs. Who in their right mind would want to see Canelo vs. Monroe over the 3 fights I mentioned? No wonder this sport is on life support.
It takes an injury to a HBO fighter to get great fights made.

I keep saying this-having an HBO deal now is causing incredible problems for the sport. HBO would rather pay for a star to KO a bum then put on 50/50 fights with lesser names.

If I was emperor of boxing I would prohibit HBO and Showtime from ever having exclusive contracts with fighters.

They would just offer money for the best fights.

Triple header eh? This is a decent opening fight....showcase fight for Saul Alvarez as the co main event against some jobber he can beat with one hand, and gennady golovkin vs Daniel Jacobs in the main event?!

What would your 2nd act be as emperor of boxing?

Eliminate all sanctioning bodies and have only one world champion in each weight class.

Exactly, it's just weird how the wars don't seem to affect him like other fighters. I'd argue that Garcia and Matthysse lost a piece of themselves when they fought. Robert Guerrero hasn't been in nearly as many wars as Salido and has really slipped in the last few years. Salido is really cut from a different cloth.
