Still, Callums team should have done a better job ensuring he is ready for the title shot when it comes
It does seem that if you are with a big promoter mandatory's are frighteningly easy to come by at times.

Ouch. I just started following Callum Smith honestly, is the Groves thing a duck?

Not really, Groves is just trying to be relevant again.
He's still rebuilding his career (and doesnt look the same) so it's highly unlikely his team will throw him in with Smith...it's a too high risk for the reward. (no titles etc)

The only time i've seen Blackledge fight was when Rocky Fielding iced him in 1.

I suppose I understand why they are doing it but having Callum Smith tread water like this is pretty tedious. It could also hinder his chances against the Jack-DeGale winner by creating complacency. I'd have loved to have seen him against Groves.

So true. Check out Dominic Boesel's record. He has been mandatory to Kovalev for quite a while, based on pretty much nothing. His promoters would never actually put him in with Kovalev, but Crusher will probably eventually vacate the belt for whatever reason and slap-happy Boesel will be right there to pick it up.
