I also felt they thought Linares was there to be beaten and add a good name on Crolla's record because Mitchell give Linares a good fight, but Mitchell on his day was a much more talented fighter than Crolla and his style could trouble anybody. I could see a similar situation where they think Wlad is ready to be taken, only to realise their style actually suits Wlad quite well.
Plus let's not forget Klitschko isn't just an average heavyweight, he is by far the best of his time. If he has anything left, it could backfire on Joshua. It's a big if though.

Originally posted by Tatabanya View PostI think exactly the same thing. If Joshua boxes smartly against an aging, slowing Wlad, he'll be able to get to his chin. And if that chin was not sturdy enough for the likes of Corrie Sanders (RIP) and Lamon Brewster, it won't be for AJ's punches.
See above. He was dominant in an era of absolute nobodies AFTER having been knocked out thrice. And, almost always, he personified ugliness in boxing action, although that grab-push-down-then-punch "style" paid dividends for him.
He might well be better than them, but there's no real evidence of it.

Originally posted by Tatabanya View PostWell, he completely annihilated fighters who would have lasted much longer with other heavyweights; he's athletically gifted, certainly more agile than, say, Frank Bruno; he's confident. I feel that, for the Klitschko of nowadays, all of the above could be enough. If Wlad pulled a swan song win I'd be VERY surprised... and the first to eat a slice of humble pie!
I'd like to see him fight Haye actually, if Haye has anything left that is. I think that fight might answer a lot of questions about Joshua actually.

Don't get me wrong, i can see him beating this version of Wlad but i'm not going to be surprised at all if he can't live up to his hype. He hasn't shown a lot yet. Can he fight going backwards, can he find a way past a great jab, can he cut a ring off, can he fight inside, deal with movement? granted he won't need some of these things against Wlad which is why he has a chance, but in general i'm not that sold on him. Can he even take a good shot? Whyte had him on ***** street and he went stiff for a couple of rounds and he only really clipped him. How does he deal with a straight right from a guy like Wlad? lots of questions to be answered.
