I like to think of Gennady as a swarmer boxer puncher slugger
GGG, is he a swarmer, boxer puncher, or a slugger?

He's close to the volume of a swarmer but doesn't fit in the (unfair) stereotype of just throwing leather wildly - he's pretty calculated and methodical IMO, though keeps a high workrate. I tend to see him as a pressuring counter-puncher. Cuts the ring, gets in your face, makes you need to throw to keep him off and then capitalises on it. Or if you don't throw he just keeps coming and wins that way. He also rarely goes for the highlight reel, seemingly confident in breaking guys down - it's a lower risk strategy that doesn't rely on landing that one big punch or an opponent getting overly sloppy. In a lot of ways he's a very conservative fighter - contrary to the 'monster' image that's sold, patient and methodical rather than dazzling or explosive.Comment
