What the hell happened to Abner Mares??

Mares almost reminds me of Mike Jones to some degree. Mike wasn't a pound for pound guy (obviously), but he was considered an elite prospect. Then got KO'd ruthlessly by Bailey and then just completely disappeared off the face of the earth.

Mares has fought a few times since the Gonzalez stoppage but still, he has seemingly fell off a cliff also.

It's scary how quickly a fighter can fall to irrelevancy.

This is what happens when fighters get paid too much money, no longer have desire to fight unless for big money.

Mares should never have been considered p4p but he was/is a very good fighter but like many careers, modern day inactivity is killing it.

He lost to a journeyman with power, call it a fluke. He then lost to a guy who had a size advantage. Fair enough. All is not lost but he should have stayed more active.

Look at the opponents this guy beat, a fighter like that doesn't become suit over night.

My chihuahua is named after Jhonny Gonzalez. I was fixing to call him Salvador after my favorite all time boxer but my woman like the name Jhonny better. Mares is alright, let's see if he gives up is hair dressing career and cosmetology side business and fights. Hawaiian gardens ain't no joke.
