Long term fame and short term fame are very different. Nobody will know who the **** jerry springer and the kardasians etc are 100 years from now. Easy come easy go.

I'm old enough to have seen Mike Tyson fight. He was a force to be reckoned with at the time. There can be no doubt about that. He was raw and an animal in the ring in his prime. Everyone feared him. His career took a downturn but in his day he was great. I met him once personally and he was pleasant and humble. I told him I saw him fight Michael Spinks who he knocked out what I remembered at being in about 45 seconds of the 1st round. He winked and smiled and said "I think it was 30 seconds." I certainly wasn't going to argue with him

There were better fighters than Tyson but other then Ali there was nobody more recognizable in the sport then Mike Tyson. He was front page news worldwide from being HW champion at 19 to undisputed champion by 21. People who didn't watch boxing knew who Tyson was & the same can't be said about Holyfield or Lewis. When something good or bad involved Tyson it was on the front page of every newspaper not just the sports section. The jail time ended his career. After that he got by on talent & power. He was never the same fighter & it all started going downhill when he joined Don King & married Givens. He wasn't the best of my era but he was the most well known fighter & not just because of the biting of the ear & jail sentence. Younger boxing fans just don't seem to realize the impact he had in the sport back then. He was 19 when he won his first world title & 21 he was undisputed. Lewis, Klitschko, Holyfield & any other champion after were either amateurs or just starting their pro careers. What were all the naysayers on this site & in general doing at 19? You certainly weren't fighting for the world title collecting 8 digit paychecks...20 years, 4months & 22 days he was undisputed champion...
