These seems to be two extremeS
Those who absurdly thing GGG is A-side he's not, even if Canelo v Smith did bad, which if it's 62k we'll never hear the officials (although since GGG haters quote the 97k but don't use Glaser's numbers for any other fighter).
The other side things GGG will have to take basically crap when this is the biggest fight in boxing. That's not gonna happen either.
GGG POSITION
GGG on the other hand first ppv was 125k. That's low, but put in perspectful of who the fighters were and that it was their first, it didn't lose money. Yet it was his first, so it's not a shock. He has not ridden on anyone's coat tails.
CANELO REAL POSITION
Although Canelo is an established ppv star, GGG is also a big star and is easily the most talked about fighter right now. Especially among hard core fight fans.
Selling ppv is about having a fan base, Canelo had earned a hardcore Mexican fan base by both going on Floyds undercard and fighting so many ppv fights.
However, Canelo isn't the star Floyd, Manny had been. He is the top ppv guy by default, because ppv for boxing is hurting anyways (hence a fight like Kov v Ward is poised to not even break 1m). Canelo did so low on the khan fight they refused to release the numbers. Anywhere from 300k to 450k. It wasn't a huge success. Rember that's is Floyd on a bad day.
Canelo is under a lot of pressure to fight GGG soon and it's hurting him, even if he sold 50k in Texas. That's a lot but it's ha base. And he's supposed to be the new Floyd. So expectations are higher. He can't use money as an excuse unless GGG won't take a decent deal, and to most fans a 60/40 split seems equitable.
He is under enormous pressure to fight GGG and nobody in the media is buying the "I made him an offer bull rap." Been there with Floyd and PAC, no one will buy it.
