In fact, SportsPro ranks Golovkin as the 29th most marketable athlete in the world, whereas Canelo doesn’t crack the top-50. Golovkin’s endorsements with Apple Watch and Jordan Brand only reinforce this assessment. *Boxing Superstar and Unified Middleweight World Champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s, (36-0, 33KO’s), fifth round stoppage of previously undefeated UK Superstar, “The Special One” Kell Brook, (36-1, 25KO’s) was viewed by a combined 1,436,000 viewers on HBO World Championship Boxing this past Saturday, September 10, marking it as the most watched HBO boxing event in 2016 and the highest rated HBO international boxing telecast in many years viewed live by 843,000 fans and same-day rebroadcast by 593,000 viewers. Canelo is barely the A-side.

The thrilling victory by Golovkin was also viewed live on TV Azteca by 1,560,000 viewers in Mexico on Saturday afternoon. Golovkin’s fights are broadcast in over 100 countries which all reported strong viewership numbers for this event.

Golovkin’s 23rd straight knockout and his 17th world title defense took place at The O2 in London, England in front over a capacity crowd of over 19,000 fight fans as he retained his WBC, WBA, IBF and IBO Middleweight World Titles.

Yes a flat fee 12 months before the fight is absolutely crazy because no one can project the economics of that fight 12 months in advance. Secondly Canelo was an undercard fighter at that time, GGG may be unified middleweight champ by next September. It's a little different. Just a little lol. Thirdly Mayweather was regularly pulling in much bigger PPVs back then than Canelo is now. In other words, Floyd back then was a bigger A-side than Canelo is now, and GGG now is a much bigger B-side than Canelo was then. Therefore, the split between a lesser A-side, and a bigger B-side, is going to be much closer to even than the split between a bigger A-side, and a lesser B-side. Pretty simple imo.

GGG troll."Golovkin might hit a tad bit harder than Chavez Sr, and I think defensively he's a lot better. Golovkin's not a one trick pony, and that's what I think people are kinda missing here as they talk so much about the power, but he's got subtle defense, he's doing a lot of things in there that is allowing him to not take too much punishment." -- Andre "S.O.G." I am neither a Canelo supporter nor a GGG hater or vice versa.

I am just a boxing fan who wants to see the best fight the best and both fighters treated fairly.

Thinking out aloud a fight of this magnitude will generate a LOT of interest and REVENUE.
So the idea of a FLAT fee is a bit of a stretch in my humble opinion. Just my opinion.

Canelo is no doubt box office material. GGG is not quite there but is the most compelling fighter and opponent Canelo would have faced. GGG fights are must see affair EVEN when the opponent is overmatched.

The public wants this fight as much as we wanted Floyd v Paq.

For a fight of this magnitude and what it will generate NOBODY in their right mind will or should accept a flat fee.

No i am not saying they should both get the same but the idea of a flat fee just seems a bit ...well gangsta if you ask me.

            I dont care who the A , A+ or A- side is.

Both camps should be able to share in the spoils with the greater percentage going to Canelo but the idea of a FLAT fee is absurd. But i guess that is what negotiations are for.

Also for the record i want to state that if this fight comes off i'll put my money on Canelo.

Some how there is feeling that Canelo is afriad of GGG. Nothing could be farther than the truth.

I get the feeling that people are underrating Canelo as much as they are overrating GGG.

Also dont sleep on Danny Jacobs. He could mess this all up!!

How many times do we have to educate yall on this? Lou Dibella, who works with Lara's "adviser" Al Haymon, was asked specifically about GGG-Lara. He replied there would be "TV problems" preventing that fight. Lara's manger as well said they wanted to be loyal to Showtime. GGG fights on HBO.

Get it yet? Most fighters are honest, and are pretty open about ducking GGG, like Froch saying to swerve GGG like the plague, and Saunders saying GGG would "kick both our (his and Eubank's) asses."

But there is a certain percentage of fighters who pretend to want to fight GGG in order to keep their names relevant, despite the criticism it gets them. These are typically boring fighters with no fan bases who make a calculation that they need the publicity, even if it's bad publicity, in order to keep their names relevant in boxing when their fights aren't providing the excitement necessary to do that on their own. This is why the two most prominent examples of fighters who pretend to want to fight GGG are both extremely defensive fighters whose careers have stalled out, Erislandy Lara and Andre Ward, Ward who pretended to want to fight GGG even though he's admitted he couldn't make 168 anymore, which is why his offer to GGG only came after GGG had already signed to fight Lemieux, and why he always requested unrealistic numbers of tuneups first. These unreasonable demands were made to ensure the offer wouldn't be accepted because he never wanted the fight.

Erislandy Lara does not really want to fight GGG, otherwise he would be willing to go to HBO, like Danny Jacobs apparently is now, we hope.

You do know GGG agreed to fight Eubank jr, but according to Eubank jr's own promoter, Team Eubank made crazy demands at the last minute to scuttle the fight, just like Ward used crazy demands to prevent the GGG fight? As usual GGG made reasonable offers to all the best guys. Just in the last few months he offered Canelo. He offered Saunders. He offered Eubank jr. Now he's offering Danny Jacobs over 3 mil. Are those bums lol? He has been more willing to fight any top name and any style in his division than anyone in the sport, along with Kovalev, Chocolatito, and Lomachenko who have also been willing to fight anyone.

So if other fighters are scared to fight him, that's not GGG's fault, that just means he's that good.

I honestly hate the idea of having a contract a year out but he should just take it if it's written that he gets a cut of it. I think 25% is a crap deal but if it's close to that he should take it. Beating canelo would introduce him to a whole new fanbase and probably make him the biggest thing in boxing.

an undercard fighter?? the red kid had 40k at the alamo, sold out mgm vs ***ing jossesito lopez the same day chavez jr fought maravilla across the street, something ggg isnt capable to do yet, the kid had more fans than floyd on almost every city during the city tour, do you actually believe ggg is close to that??? canelo was red hot when he fought floyd and the numbers dont lie... ggg is not a ppv fighter and is risking to get a middle finger from canelo...

You are plain ******. Canelo draws like 15-20 mil viewers on Mexico TV and you bragging about 1.5m? Canelo fills 52,000 crowd and you bragging about 19,000 all of which came to see brook not GGG. You talking about 800k viewers on HBO less then what GGG did the year before against Murray and not even HALF canelo did against Kirkland 2.2mil viewers on HBO little boy. GGG so marketable that HBO won't give him another ppv unless he fights canelo while they give canelo any ppv he wants regardless of the opponent? Even HBO gggs own network is telling you who the clear B side is you GGG fangirls just don't want to listen. GGG can't make big fights with no one it's one bullshyt excuse after another. Have fun watching him fight bums like wade that is all his team will ever give you. He will be 40 years old before he makes a real fight
