Alvarez is not going to sell one million PPVs with or without Golovkin. Even with Cotto as his opponent, Alvarez only sold about 700,000 (as opposed to the 900,000) that HBO claimed. An Alvarez/Golovkin fight would sell no more than 600,000 PPVs and that number would be a stretch.
If he can't sell a million with Cotto, he definitely won't sell a million with Golovkin. Mayweather and Pacquiao have made fans lose perspective about PPV buys. 500,000 is a great number. A million buys before those two was a massive success, but they were so successful that people looked at a million as a disappointment. Fans now think great PPV numbers are disappointing.
Alvarez-Golovkin probably does somewhere around 400k, and that would be a success. If it did 500k-600k, it would be a smash.
I agree with you that May and Pac are "special" cases ,and 1m is huge PPV ,Canelo Chavez joined this Group . But imo your numbers are to low, match up matters ,i think it can hit 800-1m with right promotion ,Canelo-Cotto had promotional problems and did 900k.im optimistic
