I seriously doubt Canelo Golovkin does 1 million buys.

The fact that Canelo can't even speak english definitely does not help his ability to sell PPV, but his star is only rising. He did 500k buys against Khan and he will probably do around the same against Liam Smith. He is a bonafide superstar, without a doubt.

been saying this.. all the other fighters that were successful and was not an american, can atleast speak some english. canelo is still in his 20s but it seems like he's not even trying to learn the language. that just turn people off. you have guys like marquez who's in his 40s that can speak way better english than canelo LOL.

It seems there's no reliable web page anywhere on the web, with a list of PPV total buys BY BOXER (NOT BY EVENT) to see where NON-AMERICAN BOXERS stand, vs. American ones. It is very well-known that, by a landslide, the majority of PPV boxing buys are made by Americans.

So, off the top of my head, I would create my own list next but if anyone has a RELIABLE web site with boxer-by-boxer PPV totals, please do prove me wrong:

TOP PPV AMERICAN BOXERS OF ALL TIME (total PPV buys in a fight where the specific boxer was involved, regardless of whether or not he was the A side or B side)
                1) Floyd Mayweather Junior
                2) Oscar de la Hoya
                3) Evander Holleyfield
                4) Mike Tyson
                5) Shane Mosley, Bernard Hopkins, Leonard, Ali, etc. etc. no idea really

TOP PPV NON-AMERICAN BOXERS OF ALL TIME
                1) Manny Pacquiao
                2) Very difficult to know, I'd include: Lennox Lewis, Canelo Alvarez, Juan Manuel Marquez, Miguel Cotto, Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., any of the two Klitschko brothers and possibly Antonio Margarito.

This is only my estimation. As I mentioned, please correct me if I am wrong.

AFAIK the only fight between two NON-AMERICAN BOXERS that has ever generated more than one million PPV buys, has been Pacquiao-Marquez III. Even Cotto-Canelo missed the mark by only 70,000 views (the official number was 930K views AFAIK).

IMO boxing is, SUPER SADLY may I say, highly dependent on American fans, for its success both as a sport and as a business. That's why anyone can see that the very top draws of all time are ALWAYS American boxers. It is not really about who are the best or more entertaining athletes, it seems to be more about WHETHER THEY ARE AMERICAN OR NOT. It's sad that a HUGE EVENT if it ever happens, such as Canelo vs. GGG, would probably generate only about a million PPV sales, simply because Americans are by far the biggest buyers of boxing PPV events on the planet, and they tend to go and see, very biasedly so may I say, American boxers because they tend to root for A NATION, not for A BOXER, with the only VERY RARE exception of Manny Pacquiao, which is truly a very rare phenomenon and dare I say that, if he had been a Filipino-American, he would EASILY have broken any records that Mayweather or De la Hoya may currently possess, regarding PPV buys. But not being an American seems to be a huge handicap in boxing, which, unfortunately, doesn't seem to be the case in the UFC/MMA, where both non-Americans and Americans have the same chances of becoming big draws IMHO.

This is the ONLY list similar to what I am looking for, but it is a very short list and it is outdated already, since it was made in April 2014, almost two years and a half ago already:

It would be a huge success if it does do 1 mil, but I think 1 mil is still a stretch. Canelo and GGG by themselves don't sell well. You saw Canelo - Cotto didn't break a mil and Cotto is an established guy. Guys on the HBO crew would like you to believe that GGG is a star, but sadly, he just isn't. He doesn't bring in a lot of viewers.

It would probably do less than Canelo - Cotto numbers, even though it should do more.
