At least ward had great run from 09-11.....add the kovalev fight too. Ward's resume makes GGG's resume looks like cat s.hit. What makes matters worse is that even with Ward's 4-5 years of inactivity, GGG hasn't even came close to moving an inch to catch up to Ward.

You may be joking. Maybe not. But you have touched on the problem.

If you prefer to watch a star that you like win more than watching him or others actually fight then you get what we are getting now.

We keep complaining about those running the sport but they are reacting to what fans want. Where is the incentive to make compelling fights when that doesn't seem to be what fans want to see?

Maybe the real problem is fans today are only entertained by the guy they like being made to look like he is superior rather than being entertained by him being forced to prove it.

of course the sarcasm is flowing a bit heavy today, but I just dont understand guys like the TS. He whines and whines day after day after day, as if it is going to change anything. And always the same tired "but but but but resume doe" crap, as if he is the only person on the earth that is dissatisfied with Golovkins record. He's like some annoying hipster who thinks he has discovered the next horrible indie band that nobody else has ever heard of.

Here's a newsflash: WE ALL wish he could get certain matchups. I would love to see him get the Jacobs, Saunders, Canelo, etc fights. I'd love for him to unify 160 and then maybe go up and fight Degale, Ramirez, etc. And ultimately I would LOVE to see him put Ward on the floor and put an end to that nonsense once and for all. But heres the bottom line. IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT I WANT. They can/want to make those fights, or they cant/dont want to. But it wont change because they read some garbage on a message board.

And I think some people have a sad misunderstanding as to what is actually in most promotional contracts. Guess what? 99% of the time, opponent selection is NOT up to the fighter. In exchange for guaranteed fights and guaranteed purses, the fighter gives up that control to his management / promotional team. Sure, he can turn down this fight or that fight, and then he can sit and earn no money to feed his family. So they fight who is put in front of them, and do the best they can.

^^^^thanks for summing it up bro

when I was growing up we had our favorites but we also wanted to see competitive fights

nowadays their are few real BOXING fans, just a bunch of fan boys who want to see their favorite fighters blitz overmatched competition like its groundbreaking stuff

whats the use of all those knockouts if the quality of opposition comes into question?

He basically admitted he doesn't care who GGG fights as long as he looks impressive and wins

we already knew that, not very many that will admit that they don't care if he takes any risks or who he fights.

            • It took years before Ward moved up. Triple G still wants to unify the belts, it's not his fault dudes don't want to fight him. It's undeniable that this dude has been dodged in his division. Ward was not dodged in his division. Triple G was even dodged back in Germany by Sturm. Andre Ward moved up after he beat everyone at SMW, now let Triple G do his thing and he can move up.

I agree that they do not care what is said on a message board. However, if you refuse to tune in when garbage is on then that will force change.

Fans simply can't allow themselves to be sold on "entertainment" when all that entails is the more popular fighter winning by KO, no matter what low level opponent is put in the ring to make sure this outcome happens.

Its almost as if networks and promoters want to make sure fans get the "happy ending" that they expect from a movie.

I get it that in the movies a good ending saves a shitty movie. Doesn't work in boxing. Well at least it didn't until the modern era of fans came in.

I'm not totally disagreeing with your sentiment, but are you saying that if everyone stops watching Golovkin fight it'll lead to better fights being made? I can kind of see the logic, but is predicated on the belief that a) Golovkin's team is not already trying to make the best fights they can (arguable) and b) that a decrease in Golovkin's popularity would cause HBO to throw more money at the problem. After all, anyone would fight him - the issue is invariably that he doesn't bring enough money to the table. How is boycotting his fights going to improve that?

Not really. I believe if we do not watch GGG, Canelo, or any fight where the "star" is set up for an easy win the networks will have to change the model from focusing on the individual star to the quality of the fight.

These actions are directed at the network, not the fighters. I don't think fans should support networks when these types of fights are made, even if its a guy they like.

Seeing a guy I like win an easy fight isn't as important to me as watching him in a quality fight with a tough opponent.

I stopped watching Stevenson fights for this exact reason.

                    • He's not just p4p top 3, he's number 1 over here, was top by a mile in sky sports vote. Damn that must sting. Sorry mate but people enjoy watching him fight, they don't enjoy watching the boring twats that you fawn over. Not only does he win, he entertains, which is something you hate
