Canelo takes way too many breaks for me too think he is a clear favourite over GGG. All that time spent back to the ropes doing that pretty basic shoulder roll arent a good look.

On the plus side for him he has quick hands, is a great combination puncher, and seems to have his tactics well down against the lower level pressure fighters he has fought. GGG isnt Smith, Angulo or Kirkland though (all 3 of which got to Canelo at points in between getting their asses kicked). His footwork and sense of distance is a million times better for a start. Then power, chin, combination punching, defence (yep) is also way better than those 3. Plus the fact he naturally the bigger man, despite what fight night weights say.

But, I think he probably does well in the early going, before the pressure starts to tell. That jab is really going to break down Canelo as the fight wears on, and every time he takes his breaks on the ropes he is going to take some serious punishment.

I think late round stoppage for GGG.

GGG isnt going to approach this fight like he did the Brook, Wade or Monroe fights. All of which he looked pretty bored and uninterested in.

Alvarez has the hands and skill to land on Golovkin, but I'm not sure you're giving Golovkin's skill with distance enough credit. He knows how to keep fights at the range he wants. Alvarez also doesn't have any advantage in foot speed, which will make it hard for him to consistently keep away. You're looking at the possibility of Alvarez being unable to cause more damage at distance than Golovkin is, and being unable to take the fight inside because it's not his style. Golovkin will use that jab to keep Alvarez from ever getting comfortable and to push him around the ring.

Basically, Alvarez needs to have the power to keep Golovkin off, and I'm not sure he does. Before the Cotto fight I would have said he does, but he unloaded his best on Cotto and couldn't come close to stopping him. That leads to an even match where Alvarez is definitely taking more damage.

But I'm very much not counting Alvarez out. He is definitely the more skilled fighter of the two.

I feel like people make the mistake of judging Golovkin against his worst opponents rather than his best. The difference in approach and focus from Golovkin is very, very evident.

Everyone wants to judge him by crappy fights Golovkin doesn't like (Monroe, Wade, Brook, Rosado) rather than the big fights, where he is excellent.

            Who hacked dan_cov's account?

Once Canelo feels that power jab, the fight is only going one way.

Canelo can definitely beat Golovkin but "beat the hell out of him" seems a stretch.

Golovkin's skills are definitely very overrated and Canelo is the more skilled fighter.

But I feel the style favours Golovkin.

We'll see, Canelo's got a shot for sure.

Just watched the Canelo vs Smith fight. Canelo was throwing some beautiful combinations with speed and power and I think this would trouble GGG early on.

However Smith effectively just came forward and it's easy too look good when a guy is in full guard not throwing much back. Smith still managed to have his moments in certain pockets of the fight where he let his hands go. What I saw was Smith catching Canelo quite cleanly at times despite Canelo trying to use shoulder rolls and head movement. Thankfully for Canelo, Smith didnt seem to have a great deal of power in his shots. However he managed to cut Canelo off and corner him on the ropes, he also cut Canelo early on.

Watching this fight I would still favour GGG heavily. GGG would cut off space better than Smith and he would almost certainly have Canelo on the ropes in some period of the fight. And if GGG catches Canelo with shots like Smith was then I see Canelo getting marked up and bloodied.

GGG's jab would dictate the fight and push Canelo on the backfoot. We know Canelo has fast hands but his footwork is poor and GGG will catch up to him. The question is whether Canelo would be able to sustain those combos for the full 12 rounds to keep GGG off of him? With his stamina issues I highly doubt it.

Canelo will land beautiful combinations on Golovkin that will have nowhere near the effect he will expect them to have. Canelo will get tired. And Golovkin will still be coming.

I've always left that people are sleeping on Canelo in this one. I still favor GGG but IF Canelo can stay off the ropes, he has this fight in the bag. In center-ring, Canelo sets up his shots and traps much better and is a legit 1-punch fighter. When you have a 1-punch KO artist against a guy whose face is always available to be hit, the science is inevitable. BUT, Canelo must stay off the ropes for several rounds first, which I don't think he's quite ready to do, hence my favoring GGG. Just like Alvarez has advantages in center-ring, GGG would cripple him if Canelo tried to play around against the ropes like he did w/ Smith and Krikland.

Let me put it this way, i expect GGG to win or be the favourite but i wouldnt count Canelo.
