    Golovkin and Orlando Canizales

Since Orlando Canizales was inducted into the IBOHF, I believe Golovkin clearly has a chance to do so. Canizales' biggest accomplishment was making 16 defenses of the IBF Bantamweight Title. His ledger doesn't hold any big names. He never won the other belts at 118. He never won a title above that. After his final defense, his career pretty much went nowhere.

So, given Golovkin's number of defenses which have been many but the number is skewed on how long he's been an official champion, he's been fighting in title fights for a long time, has never lost and has won every fight by KO. I think given that he now has the IBF and WBC versions, he already stands a chance.

Love him or hate him, Golovkin doesn't need many more wins to get in IMO. Obviously, I'd rather see him beat more than just Kell Brook and if he were to retire right now, I don't see him getting in, but I think you'd have to be naïve to think that he isn't already close. Anybody who's been in title fights for so long and is knocking on 40-0 with 23 straight wins by KO has got a solid chance.

He might have done enough but a couple big wins would help.

GGG doesn't have 16 defenses of the WBA title.

He's probably HOF already like it or not, but it's much thinner HOF ranks now than Canizales times so who knows, may already get there on there on the first ballot. Doesn't matter anyway, he's nowhere near retired

I agree. Oh, I definitely want to see more for sure. If he retired now, it would be a huge disappointment.

What Golovkin doesn't get enough credit for is paving the way for the Eastern European influx from 2013-2016. Kathy Duva even admitted as much that HBO took a liking to Kovalev in large part due to Golovkin's run in 2013. After seeing the success Golovkin had, other promoters realized that the Eastern European fighters were pretty good and they've been trying to find the next Golovkin.

Well, I'm definitely glad he did. Talk about blazing a path. Haha. I like new talent from new countries. The more the better.

^Apparently everyone just skipped over this.

I think he'll get there on his current path but if we have to say that he deserves it by comparing him to some of the lowest achievers on the list, then maybe we should give him some time.

Oh I thought GGG signed to fight Canizales next.

Oh I agree. I didn't skip over that. I said in my post that he doesn't officially have as many defenses. I get that. But he's been fighting for some version of the WBA title for a while and his last six or seven fights have been for the super title or whatever and with his run, I'm saying he's on the verge probably already. Now, of course, the competition needs to step up which I hope it's going to. I'd much rather see him reach the higher level of HOF.
