Comments Thread For: Smith's Trainer: If Canelo Fails To Make Weight - Fight is Off!

SAUL ALVAREZ has been warned if he doesn't make weight for his WBO light-middleweight clash with Liam Smith the fight will be called off. Smith's trainer Joe Gallagher said his fighter will "take the pay cheque and go shopping" if Canelo does not make the 154 light-middleweight limit.

How much does Liam get paid if the fight doesn't happen cuz of Canelo's weight? How much more could he get if he allowed Canelo to fight overweight?

I don't know that its making a difference in the outcome anyway so I'd assume if Canelo comes in at 154.5 or something like that it'd be more worth it to fight than not fight, but who knows. And I mean getting KTFO by Canelo is probably a bigger rub for Liam than being the guy who didn't fight him cuz of weight.

Plus I couldn't have been more happy when James De La Rosa lost his next fight to a prospect after not fighting David Lemeiux over 2.5lbs in a bs off tv club-ish level fight so if Liam doesn't fight over a lb or two I'll be wishing ill of him too. The show must go on f#cking momos.

I said this when fight was announced. Smith should walk if he doesn't make weight. This hurts Canelo not Smith.

There's no way Canelo doesn't make weight even if it nearly kills him otherwise he's going to have to answer a LOT of questions about avoiding Golovkin. Campaigning at 154 is his excuse.

I'd argue it hurts everyone its just varying degrees of hurt. No one would get the money they expected for sure I feel confident in saying not even Liam. Canelo & GBP are for sure the biggest losers, but no one comes out looking great & smiling over something like that.

So .3-.4 is enough for them to walk away?

Well yeah, it hurts everyone but really GB. And sends a message to Canelo saying they're not going for the 155 BS lol.
It hurts Liam especially if he would win in beating Canelo and making a name for himself stateside.

                  Tough choice.

Pretty much a perfect scenario for Smith if Canelo doesnt make 154. He gets to keep his belt no matter what and he gets an extra little pay packet too.

I'd make out like i would call the fight off so i had leverage, but defo would still fight.

No sense in calling it off really
