Comments Thread For: Macklin: At Times Brook Made Gennady Golovkin Look Clumsy

Gennady Golovkin (36-0-0, 33KOs) retained his WBC, IBO and IBF middleweight titles in brutal fashion as Kell Brook's (36-1, 25KOs) corner throw in the towel during round five. Fighting on British soil for the first time, GGG' landed a trademark left hook to push the Sheffield man onto the ropes before unleashing a barrage of punishing punches which prompted trainer Dominic Ingle to wave the towel much to the displeasure of partisan home crowd at O2 Arena, London.

Golovkin didn't make anything, but himself look like a clumsy oaf. It was priceless seeing Abel chew him out in the corner, though.

Yea, GGG is first fighter to get the corner to chew him out.

        And GGG crushed him.

If a bad day for GGG is a 5th round TKO, good good.

If a good day is struggling mightily with a guy who normally fights two divisions south, bad, bad.

Progrssive_Jedi, Mc,Lovin... Typical bitter GGG fans. Can't stand your idol being embarrassed for a bit there. What will you do when GGG gets flat out demolished by Kovalev eventually? You kiddies just need to accept the clock is ticking on your hero, and Time is the heavyweight champion of the world, millions of years running. Billions of wins, no losses. Just remember, all the top MWs will keep watching the tape of this fight. And BTW, if Brook hadn't gotten the eye injury, he'd be the new champ now.

He looked bad at times but you call that a struggle? He was in there with someone who couldn't hurt him, maybe go rewatch fights where Golovkin feels a threat and how his style shifts and he's more cautious.

                An objective perspective:

Golovkin looked clumsy because he was pushing too hard for a quick knockout. Brook was brave and deserves respect: he made the fight exciting while it lasted. But Golovkin-haters shouldn't take much from this showing. Everyone knows Golovkin can get hit. No surprise that a quicker, smart, skilled boxer was able to touch him up. I hope Brook heals quickly and that this fight doesn't take too much out of him. I look forward to seeing him at 154.

This does make Golovkin-Jacobs look more interesting than it did a couple of days ago...but I hardly think Golovkin was exposed in any meaningful way.

I don't buy the whole, he picks and chooses his strategy HBO propaganda. When he fights a one dimensional opponent, that doesn't have a clue as to how to get out of the way of a jab he looks good, but any time he fights someone with the faintest bit of defense, and speed he looks like crap. You clowns always use the same lame excuse, oh he's sweet pea Golovkin he gets hit when he wants to,pathetic.

I don't buy it either, Brook was landing some flush combos that ggg never seen coming or could get out the way of. If Brook was a natural MW or had a few tune up fights against MW's, he beats GGG.
