  • Golovkin vs Jacobs in the UK???

    Please read before commenting:

The WBA says they will order Golovkin to fight Jacobs next (and there will be pressure on them and the fighters to not let this fall through)

Obviously, Golovkin is the A side but Jacobs wants to be paid very well. Then there is the whole new york insurance requirements and the fact that despite being a big fight, it isn't a fight that will be a huge commercial success on PPV.

My question is that if Golovkin puts on a great show against Brook, gains more UK fans, and the ppv there sells a big amount (which it seems like it will), plus the fact that the UK is just a great market for boxing right now (where in America, barely any fighters can sell tickets or ppvs)....could Golovkin vs Jacobs work better financially for the fighters and the overall event if it placed in the UK...maybe with Joshua as a co-feature?

I think it is a great idea when the "price has to be right"..."i have to be compensated"..."there isn't enough money in the fight yet"...excuses start to get used.

Can this fight support $7-8 million in the main event purses if Golovkin makes a big splash in the UK? Talk to me.

Nope. If it doesn't involve a UK fighter the UK people aren't interested in paying.

      That's an MSG fight.

Do you think there is a possibility of UK fans adopting Golovkin as one of their own as a good amount of American and Mexican fans have?

Yes, we can all agree on that.

But when excuses start to get used about not having enough $ for the fight, can the UK be an option that works financially? That is my question.

why not just have the fight in the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ? Jacobs and GGG NY fans can simply get off the train there, which is the next stop (or 2 stops depending on the train) instead of MSG.

East Coast is definitely the most ideal place for this fight....my question has more to do with alternatives if financial demands become extraordinary.

I don't see why a fight like that would go to ENgland. K2 has more of a foothold in Germany and GGG is huge there. IMO they would go there if they couldn't make it in the US.

I think doing GGG vs Billy Joe Saunders next in the UK makes the most sense for GGG to keep that momentum going of building a fanbase in the UK

Boxing in America is ***ing JOKE right now it is in a Awful Space and more and more people seem to be turning away, only person worth coming back to America for GGG is Canelo

But if he does fight Jacob next then I think Barclay's Center makes the most sense

I think its a hard sell to expect GGG to transition into a UK star worthy of a big fight against a non-UK fighter there after Kell. Its possible I guess, but not likely or worth the risk. Then again if you put a good card together with UK guys + a strong co-main with UK guys or a UK draw it could potentially work in theory perhaps.

But again it seems like it'd be a risky proposition when the NY thing could still work itself out maybe or you could just put this fight on at Cowboys stadium or in Vegas & it should do respectable figures & be far less risky.
