You're welcome, man. I'd heard for years that he was in terrible shape, but I don't know. Even in 2013, he could still get around and speak although his words were slurred. Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Of course, though, it does show the dangers of boxing especially mixed with so much substance abuse. The part that got me was his wife's suicide. Man, that had to be tough.

goes to show you how "warriors" are used up after all those dust ups and are merely an after thought
its almost 4pm EST and if not for your thread I wouldn't know
Chacon was Gatti, before there was Gatti, difference is, he was actually an elite fighter from 126-130 and won some and lost some to the best of his era.

Yeah man, its crazy sometimes when you look into a fighters world beyond the ring and see that they are real people dealing with BS. Sometimes the glamour hides the pain. A fighters union would solve a lot of problems but I understand its not realistic...You're welcome, man. I'd heard for years that he was in terrible shape, but I don't know. chacon was one of those rare blood and guts warriors who was actually a world class/elite fighter in his division(s).....He was a prodigy and became a champion at a young age featherweight, suffered an upset to an aging ruben Olivares and a few other setbacks but turned it around towards the end of his career and got some fight of the year type fights, title wins, and defenses at 130
The fast live of the 70s and 80s ruined a lot f potential all time greats...he was close, but he partied and didn't always take his career as serious as he should have
never the less he accomplished a lot and left exciting fights for us to watch and share foreverLast edited by therealpugilist; 09-07-2016, 02:52 PM.Comment
