Am boxing is just a different sport, but its not 'worse' anymore imo.
You don't know what you're talking about.

The American Golden gloves program is the best amateur program in the world.

But that doesnt mean the amateurs are a development league for the pros.

I remember when Aiba said they were letting pros compete in the amateurs and loads of Americans were complaining that it was gonna be unsafe for these pro fighters coming up against a bunch of kids. As if anyone who gets to the Olympics is gonna be a complete novice or untalented

The pros ended up doing nothing. Hell Ruenroeng was ko'd pretty badly by a 21 yr old Frenchman who didnt exactly look like GGG in terms of power.

Times have changed. Olympic style boxing is its own sport with its own rules. Their athletes have their own tactics and need specific attributes to compete, some of which cross over with the pros, many dont.

I much prefer the pros btw. Just calling this like i see it

People were saying someone might get hurt if guys like Klitschko or Pacquiao were allowed to go in there against kids.

The pros that competed weren't really on that level.

I do agree that amateur boxing is its own specialization. But it can still serve as a training ground to prepare fighters for the professional ranks, where they will still have more to learn as it is a specialization in its own right.

SHW is a bit different because the field is weak atm.

Not convinced Pac would have beaten Giyasov over 3 rnds at this stage.

The best potential Amateur currently fighting pro is Amir Khan i reckon. What would his record be if his fights were only 3 rnds? 34-1? Over some pretty good fights too. That awkwardness and hyperactive speed is pretty valuable in the ams

Agree with the last part. It absolutely can be used as a training ground because the amount of fights you get against high quality opposition is way more than you get in the early years of a pro career.

My problem was the guy earlier who made out that Buatsi staying Amateir was the equivalent if choosing JV over Varsity. It just isnt like that anymore.
