Part of it is a numbers game like others are mentioning. According to BoxRec, there are about 100 active Heavyweight boxers out of Mexico (just an example, I imagine similar patterns exist in other hispanic populations) and 32 Cruiserweights, as opposed to 344 Featherweights.
That probably has to do with fewer people of that size available there (even 6' 200lbs is small for a modern heavyweight btw). That being said, there may be other reasons - eg. people who are heavyweight sized could pursue other sports much more readily than those who are featherweight sized. Also the history of great Mexican featherweights could possibly attract people of similar size to the sport at a higher rate than bigger people, but I wouldn't know if that is true.Last edited by BrometheusBob.; 08-31-2016, 04:15 PM.Comment

Unfortunately we seem to not be dominating the lower weights any more. We used to have several fighters in the p4p list and now there is only Canelo and that is with an asterisk.Comment

Latin/"spanish" would be classified as white in many cases. Or black in others. You're using the criteria all wrong. But basically as previously said, in those countries the average size is smaller. Doesn't matter if you go to California, Puerto Rico, Mexico, etc... You don't often run into a mexican dude built like The Rock. They exist... But how many of those even box? It's the same thing with saying "black" or "white" and bunching every nationality into it. How many elite level ethiopian hw boxers are there? Nfl players?Comment
