Wards detractors hopes he loses more than they actually believe Kov will beat him

its quite obvious

1) He is labeled boring and we know how casuals feel about fighters who arent big punchers with elite defenses and counterpunching ability

2) Kovalev and Ward are top fighters, I see a competitive fight regardless of who wins, but those who say Kov "murders" or dominates Ward are not realistic, considering the man has never been dominated and has not seen defeat since the late 90's....sounds like you hope he gets knocked out instead of believing he does

3) complaints about the site, fouls and clinching.....Ward has fought 2 times this year and there was no excessive usage of any sort. reaching for straws not there,. When has Ward ever needed shady judging to win a fight?

4) They never give any tactical reason why Kovalev would beat him. they say his chin is weak, but he has only been dropped once and that was 10 years ago...again...reaching. How is he going to outbox him, or get him out of there? explain please!!!

5) they say he is past prime, not even noticing Kovalev is older and looked less than spectacular himself in beating chilemba who is no where near wards talent or know how.

I haven't really seen this said very much. If anything thing I've seen "Ward will play with Kovalev" more than anything. I agree the fight will be very competitive.

And I don't like Ward (because I think he is a bitter, condescending faker). I also think Kovalev is kind of an a**hole. But this is a fight I will buy.

You are right that most posters don't give tactical reasons why Kovalev will win, but look at every other fight. Most posters don't give tactical reasons for their prediction in any fight. And 90% of the other fights are mismatches, where there is little reason to analyze.

The whole board needs to stop with the crying about double standards, making false equivalencies, etc. Ward is not a victim. Kovalev isn't either. Relax.

yes, by any objective criteria ward is closer to the "boring" spectrum of boxing. but he's not as boring as f#Cking grabimir klitschko.

i mean, has there ever been a top fighter who RELIED so heavily on holding? who incorporated holding to such a degree? i'd really have to think about it. wladimir is the most prolific clincher i can remember. not only does he clinch, he doesn't keep a hand free and wrok. he just leans on you until the ref breaks them apart. ward detractors bring up the kessler fight, and while ward did hold, if you watch that fighy ou can actually see ward trying to keep his hands free, and kessler doing a lot of the holding, particularly later on. yes, ward ties guys up, but he's short armed and fights well inside. he does not want the ref to break the fighters! he's one of the best infighters in the sport!


you can't call wladimir a clean fighter an ward a dirty one. you can't call one boring and say that the other is not, either. yes, wladimir had power, but when he wasn't landing it he was about as boring as you can get in there. jab, grab. at least ward puts on actual boxing moves and has a diverse toolbox. if wladimir is out of range he steps back. if he's in range he steps forward and clinches. it's robotic as hell, and boring.

TS is genuinely one of those guys who can face a room full of experts telling him he is wrong, and think that he is right. he does not see things clearly. if you press him for long enough, and do it objectively, he will admit it.

dont need in depth tactical explanation- once he gets hit hes not going to want to get hit again and ward is A LOT more hittable than you lot make out, hes no mayweather or pernell whittaker. I dont see much wrong with wards chin but you dont need a bad chin for kovalev to do you some serious damage. I think wards coming up against a guy whos going to outgun him and not let ward bully him on the inside. Kovalevs not as clumsy as you all make out either so its not just big haymakers coming wards way, its going to be good solid boxing. I think wards crafty enough to go 12 rounds but he isnt going to be aggressive enough to win many rounds. People will say im a hater but i think we are going to see the worst of andre ward this fight, just cause he hasnt fouled against bums doesnt mean he wont against someone like kovalev. Nevertheless i think its going to be in the region of 117/111 with people asking questions about why didnt ward throw more punches.

Ward is also one of the hardest fighters to hit clean, let alone with a good combination, today in the game

you dont have to be whitaker or pernell to be hard to hit...you literally pulled two all time greats out your azz lol

when you hold your opponents to 25% or less connects on average....that means you are hard to hit and he gets hit clean only a handful of times per fight with anything outside of a jab.


Ward doesnt depend on power, accuracy hand cuffs opponents...doesnt matter who you are, when you take counters, and clean shots, you get hesistant...its human nature

everytime someone pushed ward to fight, he fights back hard...has never been bullied in a ring.

i always give an assessment of why i believe a fighter wins...."he dominates" and "he murders" is kinda hollow....peole need to go in depth

I think regardless of it looking competitive I think this is an even-ish fight. With these guys particular styles I do feel like the final outcome could NOT look competitive is my slight pet peeve with this type of remark. I mean I could easily see Ward outboxing Kov 10-2 or Kov catching Ward in the 5th with a nice punch & the final product appearing one sided.
