the olympics aren't the be-all and end-all though. did he even fight in junior or youth world championships? he has literally no world class experience and probably won't get any in a competitive context for years and years now

by contrast shakur has competed in the junior olympics, the youth world championships, world series boxing and of course the rio olympics and even he is turning pro a little early imo

Haney has an impressive amateur background already.

He's better off in the pros with his style of fighting.

        The guys only 17. Relax.

What worries more is at how young an age he is being exposed to mayweather, his environment and his way of life/attitude.

Hopefully he gets involved with better people.

Would you want a 17 year old son or relative involved in the mayweather environment?

Haney has his own team and people around him...he's not going to be dumped on Floyd's doorstep.

Stop being so naive and stop hating.

Couldn't find his latest fight on youtube or wbva so no view on it (where did you see it?), but nothing wrong with turning pro at that age in some cases. One problem is that when fighting against journeymen there are less learning experiences for defensively skilled prospects than there are for offense-minded prospects.

Opponents know they are being brought in to fight a talent so they are safety first and don't take risks. So if you're the next Mike Tyson that's a good learning fight, where you have to create your own openings, cut off the ring, maybe deal with someone excessively clinching etc. Whereas if you're the next Floyd then you learn little from that kind of opponent, you don't need great head movement, or great footwork as they won't press you, you don't get to develop your counter punching because they aren't going to attack.

I remember when DeGale made his debut against a guy like that. The fight was boring, went the distance, crowd unhappy. So for his second fight they brought in a guy from Czech Republic who was 5-0. He came out aggressive because likely that's all he knew how to do, tried to throw wild bombs and DeGale destroyed him easily. Crowd happy.

Haney would look better and maybe get hype against guys like that but it wouldn't tell us any more about how he'll turn out when he hits his prime. When he turns 19 he'll have learnt more in the gym than most older fighters have in the ring. Also if he was to step up this year and beat someone in the top 20 then people would expect him to fight someone in the top 20 everytime out after that and if he didn't then suddenly he's a fraud, hypejob, ducker etc. if he doesn't.
