  • Comments Thread For: Golovkin's Coach: We'd Fight Andre Ward, But He Can't Make 168

According to Abel Sanchez, trainer of WBC/IBO/WBA/IBF middleweight champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (35-0, 32KOs), they would have no issue with fighting Andre Ward (30-0, 15KOs) at the super middleweight limit of 168-pounds.

After turning down Ward at 168 and waiting for him to move fully up to 175 they come out with this?

Ward not fighting since 168 since 2013 should have opened alot of eyes. If you're not ignorant or racist that is.

Cant make 168 in 3 years and people believe in that offer Roc Nation sent out an hour after GGG announced another fight, for a fight that was supposed to happen right now. LOL!

You cant make this **** up some people still ride with Ward. HAHAHA.

Huh where did they say yes to Froch at 172?

Also GGG offered to fight Ward at 168 in 2013 already and Ward ducked the fight.

Now also 168 is the limit, if Ward can beat Kovalev he can show the fans if his offer to GGG was Legit.

... Back in 2015, Ward came back at 172...

... Only after that (i.e. a fight with that pathetic 176.5lb Paul Smith) , he called out GGG at 168 for a 50-50 fight... Abel called him a bluff and answered: "want a 50-50 fight with GGG right now, then go 50-50 on the scale..."

              ... That was all.

When did GGG offer Ward a 168 fight? As far as I recall, they wanted a 164 catchweight (which is still fair, mind).

At this point, I don't see how even the most diehard of GGG's diehards aren't completely sick of the chatter coming from his camp. For the sake of argument, let's pretend at one point in time when a Ward fight at 168 was mentioned that he didn't make financial sense. Our priority is to unify all the belts didn't become the "priority." And "we'll do it at 164" was never spoken. Let's pretend none of that happened. The fact is in a couple weeks GGG is fighting a welterweight movimg up two divisions. So how in the name of sound logic and rational can you defend or justify GGG being unwilling to make the two division jump to fight Ward, Kovalev, or any other light heavyweight that generates interest for Gennady. I think GGG is a fighter and he'll fight anyone. But his team is making him look really bad with the bull**** they're constantly spewing in the media.

Why not fight him at 175?
