Who has more skills, Kovalev or Golovkin?

We don't really know as Golovkin's competition has been pretty poor and we don't have a good gauge of where his ceiling is at.
Kovalev is sharper and has a slightly higher ring IQ. He's shown more intelligent defensive practices. We've also seen him maul better competition so I'd have to give it to Kovalev right now.

Any number of his fights but start with the Hopkins fight. He was really brilliant in that one. I've never seen Golovkin use defensive footwork like that, or even upper-body and head movement like Kovalev exhibited there. Granted, Kovalev isn't anything special in terms of defense but he's far better than GGG who always has his face hanging out there to be hit. Even low-level guys like Wade have their moments against Golovkin. No comparison here.
