After going through all the comments it's apparent that GGG needs to stay and clean out the division. He's comfortable there, there are big fights to be made and there is no sense in moving up right now when the three top guys at 168 are trying to negotiate/hurt which is the whole reason he made that statement. I'm convinced he should stay right now. We probably won't see him up there til 2018 since he has Jacobs, Eubank and Saunders to deal with. Who knows, maybe he'll never go up. If we start getting some top guys from 154 at 160 then I don't see him moving up.

If he were 24 I'd say, sure, clean out MW....but he's 34 and should be making big strides...not baby steps, especially at his age.

It's whether he can get them. But I would be more than happy to see him fight Canelo, Jacobs, BJS and Eubank. A Jack fight at SMW isn't really appealing, unless he was to beat DeGale and Ramirez and establish himself as the main man at the weight. I'd love to see GG fight DeGale at some point. But DeGale is currently focusing all his intentions on Jack, as he wants to unify. So if GG could get those MW fights within the next 12-18 months, that would be great and he could then move up to SMW afterwards. Regarding Canelo, it wouldn't have made any difference if GG had've jumped at the chance to fight him at 155. Because Oscar doesn't want the fight yet regardless of the weight.
It's never that simple is it. It's not a good idea moving up and then coming back down, but the opportunity also has to be there. He's also now got mandatory obligations from 3 of the 4 Org's.

You have to take into account that GG he already signed to fight Eubank at MW. He'd handed the contract back in. When the fight was made official, it was exactly 9 weeks to the weigh-in. A press conference was quickly together and then the fighters started their camps the following week.
