  • Will the American officials be fair to Kovalev when he fights Ward?

We've all seen foreign-born boxers be unfairly treated. It happens all over the world: UK, Germany, USA, etc. Ideally, referees and judges should be fair and impartial.

Nationalistic or biased referees can make a difference in fights, like we saw in Soto-Lorenzo (Joe Cortez), Mansour-Cunningham (Smoger is a friend of Cunningham), Lomachenko-Salido (Lawrence Cole), Martinez-Cintron (Frank Santore Jr), Hatton-Mayweather (Cortez again), and Kessler-Ward (Jack Reiss).

We all know nationalistic boxing judges can ruin a boxer's efforts. Remember Kotelnik-Alexander, Pacquiao-Bradley I, Brewster-Meehan, and Sturm-De La Hoya?

Commentators who are rooting for one fighter over another can make a difference in public opinion. If the HBO commentators are rooting for one fighter over another, they can sway the viewers. We know Max Kellerman and the other American commentators will be rooting for Andre Ward, as will John Rawling (who doesn't like Russians) on the international feed if BoxNation is covering it. Dan Rafael and other American boxing journalists may become nationalistic and score all the rounds for Ward, whether he wins them or not.

Do you believe Sergey Kovalev will get a fair shake when he fights Andre Ward?

I hope not. I hope Ward headbutts him, the ref stops the fight and Ward wins an 8 round technical decision due to cuts. Or better yet, the ref mistakes the headbutt for a clean punch and Ward scores a TKO victory.

Ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer.

All you care about is Ward winning.

You don't care whether he wins in a fair and honorable way.

A really great boxer doesn't need dishonest officials.

I'm 100% certain Kovalev would beat Ward in a fair fight.

But I think Ward knows it too, and may have James Prince bribe the officials. He'll need to cheat to win.

Lol that would be hilarious, Ward haters would probably kill themselves if that happened.

USA is the fairest country in boxing. If it was Russia no way Ward could win a decision.

Koval trains exclusively in the USA, has an American promoter and an American trainer. He now lives and trains in California!
International judges are usually assigned to world titled bouts too!
The management of both fighters should address any questions at the time of signing their contracts.

(ring size, referee, location etc......) is decided by both parties if their smart!

                  Nonsense.

I've never seen a robbery in Russia, nor an unfair referee (except Ian-John Lewis when he worked Wlodarzcyk-Drozd in Moscow).

usa is a fair country when it comes to boxing for the most part, better than the uk lol. But they are anything but fair in oakland and thats where wards wanting the fight. Thats why i dont even count the kessler fight as a ward win, i count it as a no contest.
