Kovalev was Ward's only option for a big fight. Ward said it himself, he was preassured to move up by HBO. Who knows if he was actually preassured or if he couldn't make 168 anymore. I don't know.
Golovkin is more popular and has more options staying at his weight. The original fight was Eubank jr, but Eubank sr wanted more money after they already had a deal, so Hearn proposed Brook. Not a bad fight to be honest if you compare it to the Wades and Monroe Jr's of the world.
The fight is a sell out. The fight is a career highest payday for both Golovkin and Brook. The fight is gonna be huge. This puts Golovkin on the top of the UK market, where he can get better fights at 160 or 168.
All this context I'm explaining should be very easy to see for anyone with a little common sense and knowledge of Golovkin's situation in the past 5 years or so.
First you guys say no one at 160 wants to fight lil g. Now you guys say lil g has more options at 160 that's why he stays at 160.
Which one is it?

It's not complicated, dummy. He stays at 160 cause he makes it with ease, cause he's close to unifying all 4 belts and breaking the mw defense record, and cause the biggest fight in boxing is at mw
It's just a shame the MW division is a crock of s*** because the old GGG could have given us some great fights. He may not have a "big name" on his cv but boy has he f**** everyone he has fought - and the remainder are s** afraid to get in the ring with him - unless they are paid career ending money. There are probably only 3 fighters left in that division that would give him an interesting fight (Eubank Jr, BJS and Jacobs) are all 3 would get f*** by him. I've written Canelo off as he clearly doesn't want to fight him and in any case his cv hardly suggests he beats the GGG (debatable or very close calls on Trout and Lara, and completely destroyed by Mayweather - hardly indicators that there's an upset there). I think the only way for GGG is up a division but can't blame a guy for wanting to be the lineal, all belt holder in one of the premium divisions as as a legacy.

Ok gotcha.
This makes sense and now I understand why lil g is fighting a welterweight.
Agree that Lara is better than Brook for GGG's legacy...but not enough to offset the financial advantage of fighting Brook. I doubt there is a prizefighter who would disagree with that.
Are we talking about money or legacy? I'm understanding of the financial side of boxing, I just don't care about it. Either way, I wasn't speaking on Lara as of it were either/or with him and Brook. I don't really have a problem with the Brook fight. I just think GGG's hypocrisy is funny. Anyway, fighting Brook is fine. But, I'd much rather have seen GGG fight Lara instead of some of the Wades and Monroes we've gotten so used to seeing him in against.

So sit around fighting nobody and maybe Canelo will fight him one day. That sounds like an exciting career path.
Can't recall Ward trying to fight Calzaghe but at that time Chavez was a big money fight.
Ward and Hunter after Dawson wanted Calzaghe to come out of retirement and drop back down to SMW to fight them in the US.
After Martinez thrashed Chavez Jr, Ward wanted to fight Chavez saying he was a big and tough fight. Then 6 months later, Ward made fun of Carl Froch for calling out Chavez Jr. Then again, Ward is a guy who turned down fights with Bute and Stevenson, but signed to fight Pavlik.
I'll ask you as well, do you want to see g string actually fight a quality opponent or are you satisfied just seeing him crush one no hoper after another?
Absolutely. My top fight for Golovkin is the winner of DeGale/Jack. I hope Jacobs is next for December. I'd like to see Rameriz, Eubank, Saunders and Alvarez get a little more seasoning before they fight GGG, so there's no excuses and full credit.
