I do see a small window of opportunity when Ward throws that looping hook and goes in for the clinch. A well timed overhand shot could hurt him as he's coming in. Landing it is going to take a lot of good timing and a little bit of good luck. I expect this to be a great fight between two world class fighters
Ward's lack of power is what I think is really going to get him beat.

Hey I'm big on Kovalev. I love the guy. He's a killer (no pun intended). I won't be surprised if he wins. But I've made my prediction, and I have to stick to it. I won't be hiding if I get it wrong.

I can't picture Kovalev landing enough to stop Ward. He might hurt Ward a couple of times though.

The last thing Kovalev wants, is for this fight to go twelve! If it does, Kovalev will need at least one 10-8 round. Kovalev can't beat Ward in a boxing match! Kovalev needs to do to Ward, what Maidana did to Floyd, but not just for 4 or 5 rounds like Maidana, but 7 or 8 rounds!

The problem for Kovalev is Ward's mastery of distance. Kovalev is primarily a mid range bomber, not that much different from Carl Froch in that regards tbh. But Ward usually finds the optimal distance to fight and negate a guy's power. Whether that means fighting in their chest or staying in the outside and waiting for them to come in and reset them. There's gonna be a lot of high skill fighting going on here. It's not gonna be just about, "oh this guy is bigger he's gonna knock him out." 50/50 fight but power isnt gonna win Kovalev this fight.

I see it going like the Hopkins fight except at a faster pace. I don't think Ward will get knocked down though. Ward is past his prime and it's difficult to gauge him fighting weak opposition. Kovalev by decision.

It's not Ward's chin I'm worried about, Kov got a vicious body shot. Moving up in weight leaves the boy vulnerable.

Kovalev won't win a decision on the cards in Ward's home country, even if he dominates every round.

He'll need a KO/TKO to win, which won't be easy with a ref protecting Ward, and permitting him to clamp Sergey's arms, headbutt, low blow, etc.

But I think he'll stop Ward late.
