UFC is trash and pure visual ugliness. It can never touch boxing in terms of aesthetic beauty and elegance. Even that fight last night was massively overrated. You could not pay me to watch the undercard. However, boxing REALLY needs to study their marketing, because that sport is a triumph of marketing and promotion. It somehow is able to sell such a dreadful product and convince people they actually enjoy it.

Unfortunately, boxing is run by dinosaurs (Arum) and by shady business men (Haymon) who are utterly clueless in their decisions in the current marketplace, fuelled as they are by either outdated ideas and fear.

Mayweather did untold damage to the sport, and his fight with Pacquiao was the nadir of all his bull****. The sport should be fresher and more vital coming out of his retirement and holding the sport hostage, but Haymon is trying to bury Arum and HBO because he doesn't know how to be successful financially without Floyd.

This is the 5th highest gate in Vegas

Hopkins vs. Calzaghe blows this out of the water

UFC in Vegas numbers are significantly down

Berto vs. Mayweather did better than this card
But what has boxing done this year? I love boxing but things are pretty meh right now.

It's funny -- Don King is universally hated, but the man used to know how to put good cards together. Check some of these cards out (unbelievably stacked) :

I remember when dudes here said large ppv buys were going to drive the sport of boxing. All those same cats loved talking about how much floyd was making and how boxing is simply a business and that matchups didnt matter as long as it sold.

That line of thinking clearly backfired. No longer is every moron spouting "boxing is a business" in every thread. Instead, they talk about, well, nothing except for how great other fighters aren't.

Ufc right now is putting out a better product and I am looking forward to attending an event live.

have you ever seen andre ward fight? if you're expecting some kind of all out war and fight of the year candidate, you're in for a big disappointment.

It's amazing how even after all this time boxing promoters in the U.S haven't woken up, looked at what the UFC is doing and tried to duplicate that. Only boxing fans will sit around and wait for fights to marinate while the boxers who should be fighting instead charge you for the right to view their next mismatch. That's precisely why boxing's core fanbase continues to dwindle and why we see even two of boxing's best and biggest names like Golovkin & Crawford's producing such pitifully low numbers for unification fights.
              100% agree.

I've been saying for a long time the UFC puts on events, boxing puts on fights. Obviously this fight was a bigger deal than some UFC cards, but every UFC card tends to work like this week in, week out with 12-13 competitive fights. Meanwhile boxing promoters are always marinating the big fights & cleverly navigating their prospects up the rankings to the point that they can marinate their big fights. The whole world of boxing lives & dies on fans patience damn near lol.

Why would Ward risk serious damage? Why wouldn't he be very defensive? Why does every defensive fighter get pissed on here? Defense wins titles

ward can't be in an exciting fight. its just not possible. even if he gets knocked out he will probably slowly slump to the canvas in a pathetic way that is devoid of excitement

It was a great event for sure. I had to go through 4 different streams to finally get a solid working one though.
