If Cotto was a little "fresher" I think he would win this fight, but the current version of Cotto I'm not sure about. I think I'd slightly favor Lara, but I wouldn't rule out the possibly of Cotto catching Lara with a solid left hook as Lara backs out with his hands down, shake him up and try to capitalize and get a TKO.
Cotto vs Lara

Why would the Trout loss not mean anything? I have followed his career, and think what you are saying makes no sense. Trout is a boxer, and Cotto was thoroughly out-boxed. Lara is a bad style match-up for Cotto...worse than Trout was.lol, Cotto beats Lara comfortably, in a good fight.
I gotta say, I'm in awe as to the schism between Lara's extreme popularity on boxingscene and his lack thereof everywhere else.
Going by what people on here say, Lara would be in a 50-50 match-up against Kovalev, too.
Don't get me wrong; Lara's a beautiful boxer, but Cotto is clearly levels above him.
If anyone thinks the loss to Trout means anything, then they must not have closely followed Cotto's career, IMO.
Lara would fall right into Cotto's wheelhouse. Cotto is at his best when facing boxers.
Cotto is running out of guys he can beat at 154 and 147, if he chooses to go back there. A fight with Bradley might be good, and an even fight imo. I would like to see Cotto vs Pacquiao when not weight drained to 145. That is probably the best fight he can make imo.Comment
