Except Canelo held the 160 pound title which he gave up so the fight never happened with Golovkin. Canelo was ordered to fight Golovkin and there was an arrangement in place that the winner of the Cotto Canelo fight was to fight Golovkin. That's why Golovkin was paid step aside money by Cotto. The WBC wanted the Cotto Canelo matchup and asked Golovkin to accept the step aside. Cotto debated not paying Golovkin and Canelo vacated his title. Cotto also didn't pay the WBC their sanctioning fees for the Canelo fight.

I retrospect, it's pretty clear why he didn't fight Ward. Though I think GG edged Canelo, the fact that he struggled with a guy like that and couldn't hurt him tells me that he wouldn't have even been competitive with Ward. The guys Golovkin smashed all went on to have really mediocre careers. I think GG's team knew at the time that he wasn't going to be able to hang but there was a GG mania going on an they couldn't resist talking big. I mean, they turned down a contract and never even tried to counter. That means they didn't actually want the fight.

GG was very entertaining and I think when people need to appreciate him for that and stop trying to sell him as someone unstoppable because it only makes threads like this happen.

You arent being fair to be fair, hes not finished yet and these fights may yet transpire.

AS far things go, ward was a SMW and LHW for all this time so he cant move down, and with GGG a MW he would have had to move up and formally have warmups at SMW in order for this fight to happen, he didnt

ANyway GGG was busy trying to win a world title in the ring in 2014 and make his first defence of it in 2015 against the bum Dominic Wade and welterweight Brook to move up and fight ATG Ward.

Why does it have to be that anyone ducked anyone? Can someone tell me when this fight could have taken place when (A) GGG was a big enough draw, (B) Ward wasn't feuding with his manager and (C) Ward could have made the weight?

Exactly when in Fantasyland does this fight happen?

Oh yeah, and at SMW, GGG would've have been the same killer. Just look at how Nelo could deal with his shots, now imagine a guy that would take way less shots, while fighting an even more grueling style of fight. GGG would've been broken down within 5 rounds.
Sorry dude, but I'm just not buying what you're saying at all. Ward is bigger, but realistically, Danny Jacobs is close to his size with significantly more power and aggressiveness. As far as pounding the body, OK? We're not talking about Kovalev. Golovkin went two 12 rounders against Canelo and took hundred of body shots without flinching.

Sucks at fighting off the back foot and not mobile? Based on what, the forum trolls? The first time he boxed off the backfoot was against Canelo2, and he did very well. As far as mobility, he boxed beautifully in the amateurs and early in his career, and he boxed beautifully when he had to in the pros. Go watch the beatdown of Lemieux.

Lastly.. stopped within 5 rounds? What in the bloody hell are you smoking? If you discount the Nut******* fight, Ward has stopped exactly one person in the last 5 years, and that was Paul Smith. He never came close to hurting Brand, who was a 40 yr old bum. Pillowfisted Ward against universally acclaimed durability of Golovkin, and Golovkin gets stopped in 5? What a joke.

Why did Ward call out Mayweather and offer to meet him at 160, but wouldn't see GGG at 160? And lets not offer up the money excuse either. If he can fight one man at 160, he can fight the other.

becos GGG with one defence of a title he won, is more of a threat and money maker than ATG Money. oh, wait....

i agree, wards not stopping GGG, that man is granite chinned.
He will maybe have worked him out in 5 rounds, thats all.

You would have lost your money. There is a perfectly good reason why Team Triple Duck only wanted the Ward fight @ 164lbs - whereas they had no problem fighting any other supermiddle at the full 168lb limit...
